A Brand to be Proud Of

This week’s Prompts for the Promptless asked us about brands – not the type they use on cattle, the type we use to identify oneself or one’s product.

DraliDoodles.

We’ve all seen them. It’s a brand synonymous with integrity, quality and value for money.

That is how I see DraliDoodles in the coming years. In order to promote this, I have fashioned a logo.

DraliDoodles Logo

As you can see, I’ve pulled out all the stops on this one, as it has to be as professional as possible! I suppose it could have been in colour, but I have no coloured pens. Once DraliDoodles takes off, I’ll get a small business loan and invest in some. Or maybe I’ll tap my investors.

Can anyone see what’s missing from my logo?

“A graphic designer with actual talent?”

Who said that? No, I need a strapline (that’s “tagline” if you’re in the US).

To that end, I’ve thought up a few to try:

  • Quality. Integrity. Professionalism. Cheap.
  • You know it makes sense! (Possibly that one’s taken.)
  • When there’s no-one else, call us!
  • Because one day we’ll be famous
  • We doodle because we care

Which do you think I should use? I think you’ll agree, they’re all pretty awesome.

And don’t worry, when I’m rich and famous and living on my own island, I’ll continue to post DraliDoodles here on my blog!

I’ll encrust them with real gold, though. Because I can.

I like it, but don’t make it into a DD sign. Can only think of a certain cartoon duck then

That’s a point – we don’t want Daffy associated with my new brand!
      Tricky business this branding.

How about “Drali Doodles, effectively simple” ?

So sorry – your comment fell in my spam box 😦
That might just work – DraliDoodles are certainly simple πŸ™‚

*gasps* How rude of your spam filter. And there I was thinking that my suggestion had offended you.

There is nothing wrong with simplicity. As my mum said when I whinged that the only type of person I could draw was a stick person – “Lowry made a lot of money from stick people”. If it works, it works πŸ™‚

There is a big problem with Akismet at the moment – the WP forums are full of (mainly UK) people whose comments are (mostly) going straight to spam (around 90% in my case), until the blogger has found them and unspammed them explicitly. If you’re having problems elsewhere (you can tell because when you post a comment the page reloads but your comment isn’t there) you have to go to Akismet and fill in a form and take it from there. Apparently they’re working through them as fast as they can.

My parents had some Lowry pictures – I thought they were great! Also the 1978 “Barron Knights” song about him – “Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs” – remember that one?

Crikey – I better check my spam folder – just in case!

I was born in 1978 so I am aware of Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs, but don’t really remember it, however for some reason I always thought it was a Beatles song!

The Barron Knights actually parodied many bands of around that time or earlier, I think the Beatles was one of them! If you check out the lyrics, though, you will soon see that they’re very un-Beatles like πŸ™‚
I won’t say I was born “significantly” earlier than that, as that would make me sound “old”, but I remember it well!
Now I’ve got it stuck as an earworm, great.

Think yourself lucky, I’ve had the first verse of some bloody Elton John song in my head all day and I’ve no idea what it’s called! Oh . . . wait . . . no, now it’s just morphed into ‘Past the point of no return’ from Phantom of the Opera. Random!

You can definitely be COO because I’m rubbish at business stuff.
I’ll be CTO, where the “T” in this case stands for “Talent” πŸ™‚
I think branded jackets are an excellent idea. Warmth, comfort and advertising all in one!

I doubt if quality, integrity, professionalism can be linked to a “cheap” mindset. We are not necessarily talking of money here but more the cost of our focus and efforts. Would you agree to that?

Yes, I would agree – “cheap” is entirely inappropriate for any serious strapline, both in terms of finance and in effort expended on a product.
Since the entire post is a “tongue in cheek” joke, I needed a fourth word which completely contradicted the first three in order to kill the entire strapline. I thought “cheap” worked rather well!
I pictured a bunch of people sitting around a table, managing to come up with some standard words for a “great” business. Then some idiot comes up with a single word which ruins the entire thing and they unwisely decide to add it in.

Draliman shame on you. You may not use your COO as an investor, very poor buiness plan. Andrea should be issued a stock portfolio and given a corner office for enhancing your title. I am offering to be your whistle blower.

I’d love to give her a corner office, but I don’t have one. Or an office. At all 😦
