So Far So Good

Daily Prompt: State of Your Year – Write up a mid-year “State of My Year” post.

I’m a couple of days late with this but (as well as having no time at all on a Monday) I realised that some stuff has actually happened to me this year.

Since stuff happening to me is quite a big deal I felt I couldn’t let this prompt go unanswered, regardless of my slight tardiness.

Three, yes three whole things have happened and they’ve all been good :-).

After a three month wait, at the end of January my new car finally rolled off the assembly line. This is the first new car I’ve ever owned! Well, I say “owned”. The bank currently owns most of it. Here’s a picture (it’s a Ford Fiesta Zetec S Ecoboost thingumy, if anyone’s interested).

My Car

It’s a lovely car to drive! Since I had to wait so long for it I ended up having to sell my old car so the dealer gave me a courtesy car to knock around in (for free!). It was a SportKa with go faster stripes and sporty trim. Unfortunately, it looked like it would go a lot faster than it actually did. Here it is in all its sporty glory. It’s not really me!

Next up we skip forward to the middle of February, when I was given this:

AA 10 Year chip

This is my AA “10 year long service medal” :-). It’s a bit tarnished-looking – it’s a sad fact that the higher the year, the longer they sit in the box waiting on a recipient. Maybe I can chuck it in some Coke or something. Apparently that’s good for cleaning coins.

And finally in June I had my little Wales holiday. Going away by myself was quite a big deal for me (I sound like a 10 year old!) and I had an amazing time. If you want to vicariously relive the experience, the photos are here, here and here.

So all in all, not a bad start to the year. And, of course, this was also the début year of DraliDoodles :-).

I hope your year is going well too!

Wow Drali! You should be so proud of yourself – 10 years is AWESOME!!! Way to go!

I love the car! Was it worth the wait? The inside of the loaner is quite a sight!

If you ever don’t want to take another holiday alone, you can always “drag me” along next time… I’ll suck it up and go just to be a good friend. 😉

Thanks! I can’t believe how quickly the years have gone by. I was also lucky that I stopped drinking in my early thirties so I still had a lot of life ahead of me to enjoy in (relative) sanity.

The car was definitely worth the wait. It’s the most comfortable car I’ve ever driven – 350 miles to Wales and no sore back, neck… amazing.
Wasn’t the loaner something! I like to stay in the background and there I am with huge black wheels, go faster stripes… 🙂

Thanks for the holiday offer – sounds good 😉

      Thanks!
The loaner was a bit tacky – I kept getting the urge to don a tracksuit, baseball cap and bling and drive through town with the window down and the music on high volume :-). I had it for 3 weeks for free, mind.

But the track suit would have to have been either black or red velour… 😉

Heh. Probably Marina and the Diamonds or Florence and the Machine. Might spoil the “effect” somewhat 🙂

well those choices far out do country music or perhaps the bagpipes for said desired effect 😉 … though personally I say good choices…

Thank you! I never thought I was going to end up on my way to being one of the “old-timers”!

It didn’t seem like the car was worth the wait at the time but after driving it for a bit, it definitely was.

      Thanks!
Yes, it a lovely car but the dirt doesn’t half show up on it! I’ve always had dark cars in the past but noticed recently that in bad light I usually see dark cars later than light cars (impending old age), so I thought I’d get a car everyone could see 🙂

Same here, my previous car was black and I noticed the same thing – I now have a silver one 🙂 Also probably the old age thing 😉

It was pretty “in your face”.
My new car is far more sedate inside, as befits a person of my age (i.e. grown up). It does has bucket seats and sports suspension, but in a far more understated way 😉
