Service Interruptus
Hello, my friends! It has finally happened – I am moving house!
I will be busy packing, ferrying stuff to the new house before/after work and generally having not a lot of time over the next couple of weeks. At some point I will lose my internet while my service gets transferred (which could take up to 2 weeks! To push a few buttons!).
So I wanted to give you the heads up. I haven’t forgotten or abandoned you! I will try to read and comment as much as possible but I may not be posting much (if at all), even my regular Share Your World, Friday Fictioneers and Chain Writing Game posts 😦 .
In the mean time, here are some dodgy photos I took of my new home. To be honest, the Estate Agent pictures were far better.

It may not be that long. There’s also the timing thing – it might get switched before I “officially” move (home is where the TV is!) or after.

A sleepy little village? Mwaaahaaahaaa not anymore. They don’t realise they have a writer of strange tales in their midst. Seriously though, your new place looks great. I especially love the kitchen. Mine is so small I have a bookcase against one wall for my pantry and there’s no room for a refrigerator — it’s in the sitting room — but it’s all mine! Enjoy your new digs

The kitchen is quite new – the previous owner had a new one installed a few years ago. Just as well since the house was built in the 70s, and 70s kitchens – well – all cream cupboards and linoleum!

Although there’s a certain excitement involved with a new place, I do not enjoy moving! I have 2 chaps with a van booked all day Monday, which is when I will officially switch residences. Hopefully this will be the last time ever.
Too much to do. Contact council, gas, water, electricity, change driving licence, change car insurance, move internet, tell everyone blah blah blah 😦

WTG – finally got it done.
It’s looks like a charming house. I had it in my head you would be buying a much older home with a thatched roof, stone fireplace and a moat.
I’m confused about internet connection taking two weeks. I thought you plugged in a wireless and done.

No moat on my budget I’m afraid! However, an “Englishman’s home is his castle”, as they say.
They need to switch the internet and internet TV over from my current flat to the new house (and activate the phone line and assign me a new number). I’m switching to fibre so I’ve got a new modem coming and an engineer on Tuesday. I’m not quite sure why I can’t do it myself, possibly there’s more involved when switching to fibre. I’m only going for the 35Mbs connection – 70Mbs seems over the top for the extra £3/month it would cost.

The previous occupant left behind all manner of pot plants front, back, plus a small strip of land up the side of the garages which apparently I also own. I think the sun reaches the back at some point during the day (so hopefully I can sit out in it in the summer).
I guess I’ll have to buy a little trowel and a watering can and whatnot.

Congratulations, but I don’t envy you. I used to move every six months. Once I got out of that mode, it was every two years. Finally, I’ve been here for six years! Yahoooooooooooooo!

Last time I moved was five and a half years ago and I have a lot more stuff now. Plus I need to get an electrician and a gas engineer in to sort some stuff out. Once that’s done hopefully all will be well!

Wow, it looks really great. Moving can be a very stressful business so I wish you all the best with the removals. Maybe you can do a special DraliDoodle Graphic Novella of your moving day lol. In a few weeks, I mean, after you’ve recovered 🙂

Is it a Cornwall “thing” to have kitchen curtains, have curtains come to the middle of the wall and have matching carpet and curtains/drapes.?
I was befuddled by the window coverings.

Kitchen curtains are common wherever I have lived in the UK. Some people have blinds instead.
The lounge curtains are a bit long, the previous occupant left them for me. As for matching colours with the carpet and curtains, as long as the colours don’t clash that’s fine. I might get slatted blinds for the lounge as well so that I can selectively cut down the light without having to close the curtains (the TV is right next to the lounge window).
To be honest I have the same memory problem with colours as I do with faces. I can live somewhere for a year and still not be able to tell you what colour the carpets are 🙂

Check out California Shutters, (white only) they will let you see out while not allowing people to see in. Will completely darken your room also.
The length of your curtains make your walls appear shorter by not being to the floor. Maybe that’s not done there.

Oops, Plantation Shutters. What I like about them is that they take up no wall space, they hang ” mostly” flush with wall.
In kitchens they wipe clean and hold no germs like fabric might.
They can be costly and not everyone likes their looks.
Just a suggestion.
