Lord of the Stage

It’s Friday Fictioneers time again, hosted as always by Rochelle. This week’s photo has been contributed by Kent Bonham.

I’m having to work all weekend, late nights and early mornings, so I’m slipping this in quickly before starting. I’ll try to read as many of the other contributions (which can be found by clicking on the little blue froggy below) as possible but I don’t know how much time I will have.

Harry stood in the empty theatre, staring at the stage light. Everyone else had long since gone, but he couldn’t tear his eyes from the lamp. It seemed to be staring back at him through slit eyes, laughing at him through gaping maw.

So entranced was he that he barely felt the knife which slid into his back, neatly severing his spine. An arm slipped around him as his legs gave way, easing him to the ground.

“I dedicate this life to you, my Lord Calitrax,” whispered his killer.

The lamp seemed to glow red before fading away to darkness.

      Dear Rochelle,
The first thing I thought when I looked at it was “demon”!

Oh dear a somewhat sad tale Al. I was surprised by he brutality of it. Nicely written though.

Didn’t even have the decency to knife the chest in proper sacrificial form. How absurd! 🙂

Very sad indeed. I feel sorry for Lord Calitrax having to deal with such incompetence. Also because his name sounds like a medication with an excessively long list of side effects that nobody wants.

Heh heh. Two reasons to be grumpy 🙂
It’s actually an alteration of “Calufrax”, the planet in “Dr Who – The Pirate Planet” from the “Key to Time” series (geek alert!).

Wow! Another victim. Well written though. I loved Dr. Who until our dish TV company discontinued BBC Entertainment. I was extremely unhappy about that. That channel had a lot of great programs.

It is a spooky light! I know it was a bit obvious, but I’m working this weekend so I don’t have much time and it was the first thing that popped into my head.
Well, let’s be honest, if I had all the time in the world, I would still probably have written a demon murder story 🙂

another great story that could be a novel. “The minions of Lord Calitrax” LOL!
Was it the light or a phyco blaming the light? Dar dar DAR!

it does look somewhat like a monster hanging from the ceiling. “severing his spine”– way gorier than the usual dagger through the chest… Calitrax is one bloodthirsty demon

Calitrax sounded like the sort of demon who would require a specific form of sacrificial murder. The thought of having one’s spine severed makes me shudder.

It’s interesting how so many people saw the evil light, which I didn’t even notice. Just one of the things that makes reading various stories so enjoyable. As for reading stories, do what you can. Life comes first (says someone who struggles to read each story every week.) 🙂

Hey, if you’re going to write about both the demon AND someone getting stabbed on stage, don’t Penny and I get props for our mad clairvoyance? Maybe we serve the demon Calitrax and that’s where our power comes from.

Maybe there used to be three of you serving Calitrax but the demon drove Jessica mad?
