Lusty Glaze

“Lusty Glaze”. Sounds a bit dodgy, right? At least to me.

Turns out it’s a beach! A tiny private beach, where we had this year’s work summer party. A lovely barbecue on a beautifully warm and sunny day last week.

I took these pictures as the sun went down. People (younger, fitter people than I) were playing football (that’s soccer, not handegg) and volleyball while the kids ran about having fun.

Finally my camera phone let me down a little. I can’t mess with the aperture and whatnot and I was facing the setting sun so it used the sun to get the light level.

I won’t say what my first, innocent, thought was when I saw the post title, because I think it inadvertently sounds even worse. Best to leave it at “dodgy”. 😀

My phone makes it a pain to adjust aperture and such. Maybe if I used a different camera app if would be easier. Still great pictures though!

Try a real camera. You might be surprised how much difference it makes.

Now that I’m having fun taking pictures for my blog and following more blogs with photos in, I’m planning on getting a camera. Once I have the money, I’ll be seeking advice!

I toyed with a few words before settling on “dodgy” 🙂
I think I have an app for doing clever stuff but when outside I can barely see the screen anyway so I can’t see what I’m doing half the time.

Oh yeah, same here. By the time you try to adjust the display to be able to see, the picture you wanted to take may not be “there” anymore.

I think you had a lovely retreat and your camera doesn’t appear to have let you down. That’s pretty much how you take sunsets — getting your the light reading on the brightest part of the scene and letting the rest fall into place. It helps to have some decent processing software to finish the job, but that’s not the camera’s fault. A better camera would give you more options, but the principal wouldn’t change. And your pictures look good.

Photographic principals really don’t change, no matter what you are working with. What changes are how many choices you have and the quality of the lens, the speed and size (and quality) of the sensor. It’s all about the light. If you are using a phone, you aren’t USING a camera which is why your camera didn’t let you down. It’s a telephone and it isn’t designed to do what cameras do the way cameras do them. But hey, what do I know, right?

Also, your thumb is in one of the frames. For this, the blame does NOT go to the camera. I’ve done it, we’ve all done it, but hopefully, we only do it once!

I hadn’t even seen the thumb until you mentioned it! The phone is very very thin – it’s very hard to hold it without curling my fingers around it. The number of times I’ve accidentally cancelled the camera app or turned the phone off mid-shot…

Thanks for the tips on taking sunsets. Now you’ve mentioned it I guess one would take the light reading on the sun, otherwise the sun would look far too bright.

Al, I agree that they were good pictures. I’s too bad the light was against you. However they were good photos of the sunset. Well done. :)—Susan

Thanks! I was lucky with the clouds making it look more impressive.

Lusty Glaze sounds like something out of a romance novel. He stared at her beauty with a lusty glaze in his eyes.

Lovely beach though looks like a great place for a picnic.
