Sunday Stills – Power Lines
I was reading one of Cee’s posts and that put me onto a photography challenge, for which I have the perfect photo! I actually published it a couple of weeks ago as part of a set of photos I took while on a walk from my house to the next village.
This week’s topic is “power lines” and is part of Sunday Stills. I took the photo because I thought the power lines looked quite cool from down on the road. You can just make out the warning triangle at the bottom of the pole, telling people to stay clear – “danger of death”!

Nice of them not to scare you to death by making the warning sign big enough to actually see without reading glasses. This way, no one will worry.
When the mills and factories left the river, the nukes moved in. They hide them … but we have the high tension wires everywhere you look. Maybe we all glow in the dark.

Ulp. There are some people who are quite affected by them I’ve heard.
We have lots of the big pylons running through the countryside, but none near me that I’ve seen. The little ones in my photo are a throw-back to the days when short-range power lines were above-ground.

In any of our riverside parks, if you spot a very tall fence topped with barbed wire, bet you bippy these a nuclear generation behind the hills and trees. It’s part of the Valley’s charm. You’d never guess from just looking around. You only find out when they propose another one and the protesters come out!

There’s a fairly obvious electrical substation on my way to work, but mostly they’re hidden behind fences and barbed wire here, too.
They always remind me of a Public Service film from the 70s or 80s featuring a young lad who climbs into one to retrieve a Frisbee and goes kablooey.

Yeah. They don’t like to let us see that we are being slowly fried. We might not vote for them in the next election.

The power lines look so simple compared to the ones with multiple lines, antennas and other strange looking components.

Yes, these are old-fashioned short-range electricity lines (most are underground these days along with the phone lines). These ones are out in the middle of rural Cornwall and run between two little villages – the one where I live and the (really tiny) one a couple of miles down the road.
