Sharing My World Week 32

Every Sunday I participate in Share Your World, hosted by Cee over at her wonderful photography blog.

But wait a minute, I hear you ask, this isn’t Sunday! Why are you doing your Share Your World post on a Thursday?

BECAUSE I CAN bwahahahaha.

share-your-world2Do you prefer ketchup or mustard?
I have to choose? How about ketchup and mustard simultaneously? Both have their place.

Ketchup (or “tomato sauce” as it’s more commonly called round these parts) is good with chips (that’s “fries” if you’re in the US). Of course, so is mustard. If you get those rubbish chips from fast food joints you almost have to have ketchup. If you have proper chips from a good old British fish and chip shop (or van) such condiment is not required! Just a bit of salt and vinegar.

Currently though, I have no tomato sauce in my cupboard/fridge. Just mayonnaise, Branston pickle, chilli pickle, Dijon mustard, hot dog mustard, barbecue sauce, HP brown sauce, Worcester sauce, vinegar, lemon juice, Tabasco sauce and extra hot Tabasco sauce.

Anyone would think I don’t like the taste of food.

I’m not sure I actually answered the question.

If someone made a movie of your life would it be a drama, a comedy, a romantic-comedy, action film, or science fiction?
It would be a story of betrayal, betrayal by the people I trusted above all else. Of a love lost, of danger, espionage and car chases. Oh sorry. My life? Not Jason Bourne’s life?

Okay then, it would be a massive box office flop. Floppity floppity flop. There’d be a normal childhood, then an unfortunate amount of booze, a dodgy bit in the middle which I don’t remember very well (thankfully) and then me now.

Yaaawn.

Let’s stick with Jason Bourne.

If you could be given any gift what would it be?
Wow, anything? The gift of happiness? The gift of health and long life? Dare I dream, the gift of love? Tell you what, just give me a shed load of cash.

For potlucks or parties do you cook it yourself, buy from a grocery store, or pay for catering?
Me, cook? Are you mad?

Actually, I’ve been wondering about trying to make some little savoury appetisers. That’s still at the dream stage, though.

I would pop down the shops and buy something like sausage rolls, and if it’s pot luck I’d buy a little dessert thing as well because I’d be worried that everyone would bring sausage rolls. I worry about things like that.

    If you mix ketchup and mayo, it’s called “Russian” dressing and if you add pickle relish, it’s “Thousand Island” dressing. Leave out the ketchup and just use the relish and mayo, it’s “tartar” sauce. Ketchup, lemon juice and horseradish? Shrimp sauce. I’m sure if you take everything in your cupboard and mix it together, it will be some sort of sauce and you can give it an exotic name and sell it.

      I could discover a taste sensation! Or it could be foul. “Foul Sauce”. Maybe people will misread it and think it goes well with chicken.

    Slightly off the point here, but assuming you like Marmite (big assumption I know) do you have Marmite and marmalade on your toast? Marmite and banana? – Both great combinations I promise. Also, salad cream and tomato sauce = rose marie to go with prawns to make prawn cocktail. I don’t see how you can answer ketchup/ mustard question as they go with different things. A ham and ketchup sandwich? That’s just not right.

      Do I like Marmite? Do fish swim in the sea?
      Back in university I tried mixing Marmite with cheese in a sandwich and ate nearly nothing else the entire year. Still a favourite of mine! When I lived in Stuttgart I travelled to the other side of the city regularly just to get Marmite from the English Shop.
      I haven’t tried Marmite with marmalade or banana. I’ll have to give it a go!

      Salad with no dressing? Hmm, salad. Is that the green stuff you leave on the side of the plate? I think I know what you mean 🙂

        A pile of spinach with nothing on it save for some tomatoes qualifies as a salad in my world. 😉

          That actually sounds very tasty! I wouldn’t need dressing on that, it’s tasteless stuff like lettuce and cucumber I need to spice up a bit 🙂

              I do like pickled cucumber. But then, I like anything that’s been pickled.

    Ali, You made me hungry writing about the English fish and chips. I don’t know how hot you like your sauce. If you ever take a trip to India, venture slowly into “hot.” They eat green chilis like chips here. Although, I guess people in UK are used to Inidian food.

    Who couldn’t used a shed full of money? I’d like it to be English pounds or American dollars though as I’m a bit picky when it comes to sheds of money. 🙂 —Susan

      And tonight is fish and chip van night 🙂
      I like hot hot. Half a bottle of Tabasco on my pizza hot. However, if I were in a country where hot food was the norm I would definitely tread carefully!

      A shed load of roubles would be no use at all, it’s true 🙂

    Looks like all that cash came from underneath someone’s mattress! Look at all those old school fives and tens… they only got redesigned less than 20 years ago (And have both been re-redesigned since), but every once in a while, I’ll still get an old five or ten in change and they just look so odd now compared to the newer big faced, colorful currency…

    It’s difficult of me to discuss condiments with a man that enjoys left over mash from a brewery. Marmite man!
    Not your party not your responsibility if they run out if food.
    Do not double check your switches tomorrow. You will be testing your insurance. If they pay for you burned home then you know you have the right insurance.

    Fabulous answers Al, I recently treated my step-kids to a traditional fish & chips dinner, while we were in London. Needless to say they loved it. Maybe I’m a bit of a heathen, but I like curry sauce on mine 🙂

      Years and years ago I got takeaway sausage and chips somewhere in the north of England (somewhere near Blackpool I think it was). They plonked gravy all over it before I even had time to form the words “whoa, what the hell?” 🙂
