Goodbye Summer

Remind me. Here in the Northern Hemisphere it is summer, isn’t it?

Where, then, did it go? Here’s a couple of snaps I took before and after my commute to work a couple of days ago, as proof of the most un-Summer-like temperature.

Here’s the temperature my car reckons it was before my morning commute. I’m inclined to believe it, it was pretty cold. The temperature’s at the top in the middle!

BeforeCommute

Here’s the time when I arrived at work (top right).

TimeAfterCommute

And here’s the temperature. It hasn’t warmed up much 😦

AfterCommute

Brr. Please may we have our summer back?

OK, I had to do the conversions and even that seems cold for where you are. What is the average this time of year? It’s a “cool” day here at 78 but it’s raining.

(Nice song choice, by the way!)

I just looked it up, August and July are the warmest months, and are supposed to be averaging 19C (66F) in Cornwall. Not 9C 😦
A friend at work said he was driving home the other night and his car said 2C (36F). It’s just not right! Yesterday I actually almost put the heating on in the living room.

      Bowie rocks 🙂

I know it’s all relative and such, but I would gladly have it be cooler now than where it has been.

I think I need to start looking at places to live based on latitude and climate numbers 🙂

Good idea. If you’re thinking of moving anyway, why not move somewhere with a year-round climate more to your liking?
Cornwall suits me – it’s temperate. With the occasional exception, it never gets too hot or too cold. It’s right down south and you’re never more than a few miles from the sea, so the temperature remains pretty stable.

Sorry to break it to Ali but we still have summer here (Coastal BC – near the Washington State border). It was chilly this morning at 10 C but now it is just going on noon and it’s 20 C. Which is a nice break from the high 20’s low 30’s we have been averaging.

It’s warmed up a bit now, today’s temperatures were 13C in the morning and 16C driving home. I haven’t seen “low 30s” for decades 😦 A sweltering day here is around 25C. Boo.

sweltering huh? I like mid 20’s it’s comfortable. I am not a fan of 30+ and high humidity (so that the weather is posted as: 30, feels like 36) I find it uncomfortable. I used to love hot like that but not so much now…. I think it’s called getting older… BOO 😦

We don’t get much in the way of humidity problems here really. I wouldn’t like that at all! Especially since I’m getting older too 🙂

Oh dear, you must be related to Goldilocks! Maybe you will luck out and find where baby bear lives, after all wasn’t all his stuff “just right”… lol.

Seriously though I know what you mean, too hot, too cold, sometimes I think I must sound like an old grannie… 😦

It’s still warm here, but no longer hot. But in recent years, the end of August has been cooler than it used to be and September more autumn than late summer. Global cooling? Is that part of global warming? Or just disrupted weather patterns? It IS typically August in that it’s very humid. Sticky, sweaty weather. Not pleasant at all. Yes. Summer is ending. Here and there. And I’m not happy about it, either.

I’ve noticed that too. Thirty years ago August was guaranteed warm and sunny, and early September was often very pleasant.

I loved the weather. We had an unseasonably cool summer here too. I think that’s why the summer felt short.

I don’t like it too hot but I’d rather it wasn’t quite this cold either. I guess winter won’t come as so much of a shock, though!

The summer’s been pretty mild here in middle America, but we’ve been in the middle of one last scorching beatdown the last few days with highs in the mid 90’s. It seems unbearable because of how cool it’s been so far, but just two summers ago, it was hitting 105 seemingly every day! I’ll take a week of 95 over that any time….

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced temperatures that hot. I hope you got your AC fixed!

Not only fixed, but the new one is much more energy efficient than the old one. My summer electric bills have been about a third lower than normal!

I think you’ve identified what’s causing cold weather in the first paragraph: we’re in the Northern hemisphere. 🙂
But seriously, this summer has been much cooler. I’ve only regretted not having installed AC for maybe three or four days so far.

There were a couple of days at the end of June I could have done with AC, but AC in houses is extremely rare in the UK – it doesn’t really get that hot. 25C (77F) is considered very hot in Cornwall.

Where I live (Northeast US), a straight week of 30-35C temperatures would not be out of the ordinary in the summer. Not as bad as farther south, obviously, but on those 35+ days AC is a lifesaver.

Wow! When the temperature in some parts of this country looked like they might reach high 20’sC this year, various councils actually sent out leaflets telling people how to stay cool and safe (thanks, Nanny state)! And that’s nowhere near your temperatures.

Ali, Summer here in India was very hot this year until the monsoon came. We’re in the mountains where it’s a bit cooler. Sometimes only 40-42 C at the hottest. Up in Delhi it got to the mid 40’s C this year. People were dying from the heat. If you lean against something while sitting, your clothing becomes wet. Don’t complain guys. 🙂 —Susan

I’m pretty sure I couldn’t handle that sort of temperature. A little heat would be nice but I’d rather it be a little cold than blazingly hot.
