Sharing My World Week 36
It’s Share Your World time here at draliman’s blog. The questions are posed every week by Cee – give her a visit and check out her wonderful photos!
Do you prefer reading coffee table books (picture), biographies, fiction, non-fiction, educational?
I have a small number of each of these type of book, but I prefer fiction. That’s what I read for fun.
I had enough of educational books back when I was getting myself educated, thanks. I prefer fantasy/sci-fi type fiction. Nothing heavy. After all, I’m trying to relax, unwind, not stress myself out trying to plough through a so-called “classic”.
Besides, I’m sure many of the books I read today will be “classics” in a hundred years 🙂
Most of my recent books are on Mr Kindle, because I ran out of space where I used to live, but here is a couple of exciting action shots of one of my bookcases to give you an idea.
One day I’ll see about getting them into some sort of order. Maybe.
What is your biggest fear or phobia? (no photos please)
I don’t have any phobias that I’m aware of.
I’m quite afraid of fear. Sometimes I dread something I’ll have to do because I know that although it will be fine I’ll be afraid of doing it during the days leading up to it, and that annoys me.
And then there’s spiders, of course. The bigger, hairier ones. Obviously none of them here are poisonous – we have only one poisonous animal and that’s the adder snake, and that’s not even particularly poisonous. Well, “venomous” I should say, strictly speaking, but let’s not split hairs.
If a spider gets on me or comes rushing towards me, you wouldn’t believe how fast I can move. Then I’ll spend the next however long it takes trying to catch it, because I can’t be having no icky spiders wandering around somewhere.
What is your favourite cheese?
Mmm, cheese. Bring on the cheese. Any cheese, I don’t care. As long as it’s cheese.
Yellow, orange, blue, hard, soft, holes, no holes – I’ll eat it all!
What is your favourite month of the year?
I like sunny summer months and cold and crisp winter months. September is quite nice – it reminds me of primary school, collecting leaves, playing conkers and harvest festival.
January is rubbish – the excitement of Christmas is over and it’s back to work with a vengeance. February is a bit iffy. October is a bit blowy and November is neither one thing nor the other. A bit like March. I’m indifferent about several other months.
On balance, my favourite is therefore Septaugdecember.

So many questions about the bookshelves…but I don’t think my shelves would be any better so I will skip them. 🙂
Funny how a lot of people came up with new months for the calendar!

Feel free to email me any bookshelf-related questions 🙂
I “borrowed” the made-up month idea from you. Thanks!

That was an interesting share, Draliman. I can help you with the spider 😀 Pawkisses for an Easy Sunday 🙂

I have now concluded that most people hate spiders and love cheese.

I noticed that too! I can understand the spiders but I was surprised that there weren’t more cheese-haters. We should do Marmite and get a real debate going 🙂

Ali, I also have full book shelves and a Kindle. My Kindle is in my desk drawer until I can activate my card. I’ve never used the card as I don’t like to use them here. That one doesn’t connect with my life savings so I’ll take the chance. I like biographies and mysteries, sci-fi, etc. I love cheese, but don’t eat all that much. Living things don’t scare me, but I came face to face with a cobra in the bathroom of a farmhouse in the mountains. It had crawled through a window. Some men came and had to kill it before it slithered into a drain. Heights bother me. I like U.S. seasons but not Indian seasons. I miss Autumn and Spring. Well written and interesting piece. 🙂 —Susan

I read the occasional mystery but I’m more into actiony things.
Coming face to face with a cobra must have been pretty scary. Sounds like a lucky escape (or is it not like in the movies where they immediately strike?).
I’m guessing in India the seasons pretty much just switch between winter weather and summer weather? I like buffer seasons in between!
I’m glad you enjoyed my answers 🙂

I love your bookcase. I noticed your own book in there — doctoral thesis? — I always stick my book in my pictures too. I wrote it and by golly, at least I can show it off.
Spiders. I’m sure there is a reason for spiders. I just wish they would go live their meaningful but completely icky lives far from me. For Garry, it’s snakes. For everyone it’s something.
Pass the cheese.

Guilty. It actually was in the bookcase but I moved it up a shelf to get it in the shot 🙂
I guess spiders keep down the fly population, which can be annoying but not as bad as the spiders. I’d probably be scared of snakes if we had loads, but I haven’t seen one since I was a little kid. And the worst is only mildly venomous.
Cracker with your cheese?

I like your answer to your favorite month. And please tell me what conkers are.

A “conker” is the seed out of a horse chestnut tree. You drill a hole through it and thread it onto a piece of string. Then you take it in turns whacking someone else’s conker until one of them breaks, thus deciding the winner! Nefarious people have been known to soak them in vinegar and bake them in the oven, thus rendering them almost unbeatable 🙂

We’ll young man I was impressed with myself, ha. We have read some of the same books and authors. I thought your book choices would be beyond me. I’ve donated most of my books to charities but I do miss them. Now many I can’t find anymore.
I’ve a rattle snake problem since the drought. Scare the bejeezes out me.
Found a baby one on my bathroom floor. Not a clue how it got there.

I like fun fiction books to relax to, nothing too heavy! I donated a lot of my books to charities too when I ran out of space at my old flat (hence the Kindle). It’s nice to have some real paper books, though. A Kindle doesn’t look the same on a shelf.
I’d freak out big time if I found a snake in my house, whether venomous or not.

You had me laughing on a couple of funny points my dralifriend!
The spiders -> heck YEAH! I’m with you on that 100%! January being rubbish is SO true, what’s it even about?
And yes, any cheese and all cheese is amazing! Glad we have that in common along with your undying love for chocolate!
Cheese and chocolate? Is there anything better than that I ask?

There’s really no point to January as far as I can see.
According to the news, the very warm year this year has prompted bigger spiders than ever. Hooray!
Deep-fried chocolate-covered cheese? Only 9000 calories a bite, get it while it’s hot.

I used to love conker championships at school – they’re probably banned now! May I say, your action shots are out of this world, I was so blown over by them I actually had to go and sit down. I think you have a future career there 😉 I like what you said about fear, so true.

I think I read in the news conkers were banned in at least one school due to health and safety concerns 😦 No wonder kids today go round with their noses in their iPhones, everything else is banned.
There’s so much action going on in my action shots, isn’t there 🙂
I don’t mind being afraid of something I have every reason to be, I just take it to extremes!
