Poor Puff

I thought I’d have a go at Alastair’s Sunday Photo Fiction this week!

The rules say that we should mention if a story is “unsuitable for under 16’s”. I’m guessing not, I’ll just say there are drugs involved (nothing you won’t see in a daytime soap).

I’m guessing you know the history of “Puff the Magic Dragon” but here’s a link.

To see the other contributions, you can find them here.

I was somebody back in the day. Doesn’t look like it now, eh? Well, I was.

Hung out with a guy called Paper. Little Jackie Paper. Dumb name, huh? Great guy though. Till he “grew up”. Left me high and dry inside my cave.

I tried to get work. I did. Amusement parks, TV appearances. But there was talk. Talk of drugs. There were no drugs, I tell you. But nobody believed me. Everywhere I went it was all “Hey, Puff, got any weed?” and “Yo, Puff, fancy a puff har har?”

So one day I just thought, “Okay, they all think I’m on drugs, I’ll do drugs.”

I smoked my first spliff. Heaven it was. I just drifted away. Good times!

They say weed is a “gateway” drug. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. For me, pretty soon I wanted something more. So I tried harder stuff.

The work dried up. I couldn’t concentrate. I didn’t care.

So here I am, lying in a dirty squat at the ass-end of nowhere, spilling my guts out to you guys. And you ain’t even listening.

After you with the crack pipe.

I am not sure why I read this in Steve Buscemi’s voice, but there you go. Well done 🙂

I didn’t recognise the name but immediately recognised the face. Yes, this would go very well read in his voice 🙂
      Glad you liked it.

Poor Puff. I always worried about him. Sad the state to which he has come. Why not send the poor dragon critter to rehab? Or a 12-step program? Poor little thing … so sad.

I’m hoping there’s a rehab for burnt-out dragons. Hopefully he’ll get back on his paws so that many more songs may be sung about him.

Ali, I always wondered what became of poor Puff. Very sad. 😦 Well written though. 🙂 — Susan

Ah, the life of a young star in today’s world. Always seems they end up on the downside later in life. Fun little glimpse into Puff’s world. I hope he can pull it back together.

It was just too much too quickly for a young Puff to handle. I’m sure he’ll pull himself back together – he has “forever” according to the song.

He definitely needs intervention! Maybe the Short, Tall or Bald Doctor can help him out! (Burgess Meredith film on Puff from 1978.)

There was a film about Puff I’ve not seen? Off to Amazon Video with me…

Dragons live forever, so why not indulge a bit? Charlie Sheen should’ve had dragon blood…

He’s got time to try everything I guess. Not a great way to live forever though!

That song left me feeling sad, until I twisted it to mean Peter stopped smoking.

I think there have been many interpretations of that song over the years! It does have a very sad ending.

Oops meant Paper, twisted that into Peter Piper. I dislike my mind often.

It’s always sad when a dragon goes off the tracks. I just hope it doesn’t all get too much for him and he goes up in a puff of smoke–or worse still, spontaneous combustion 😦

It is sad and as you say, quite dangerous for a combustible animal to go off the rails.

Haha! Oh the downfall of the rich and famous. I suppose if you’re “Puff the Magic Dragon” you’re bound to find the drug scene eventually. I always wondered what happened to him. Great concept and humorously written. I really enjoyed this.
