It’s time for Friday Fictioneers again, ably hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by fellow fictioneerer Sandra Crook.

Click on the little blue fella for this week’s other contributions. I finally gave into InLinkz’s demands to “create an account to get the code” and all I got was this little badge with no post counter :-(.

Albert peered out of his tent and gasped in surprise. Before him was the debarkation ramp of a huge – spaceship. A blob oozed from the entry-way, a tentacle pointing a device directly at him. He turned and ran, hearing a “zap!” sound, feeling a ripping pain in his back…

…and he awoke in his sleeping bag, sweating. Wiping his face, he peered out of his tent. Before him was the debarkation ramp of a huge – spaceship. He turned and ran, thinking as he did so that prescient dreams were not the blessing he’d once thought. Hearing a “zap!” sound, he braced himself.

    Bad froggy, not keeping count.

I imagine tensing up didn’t help, but I guess if you know what to expect then it can’t be helped.

Yeah, not sure what’s going on with InLinkz at the moment.

To be honest I’m sure sure it makes much difference when you’re hit by a “Plasma Death 1000 Ray of DoomTM“.

    Dear Draliman,

This guy needs to have batter dreams.

On a writer’s note, if one hears a zap, it is highly likely that it is a ‘sound’. You don’t need to tell us that (twice).

    Good story here.

    Aloha,

    Doug

      Dear Doug,
A better dream would certainly have improved his morning!
Thanks for the writer’s note – very true. I’ll leave it alone now but it would have read better without the word “sound” too.

    Dear Ali,

What did he eat before going to sleep? Or is this like Inception where one doesn’t know which is the dream or which is real? Nicely done.

      Dear Rochelle,
Too much cheese, maybe 🙂 “Inception” did run through my mind later and I thought, “maybe he’s still dreaming”…
      Thanks!

He should try yoga before getting into his sleeping bag – that’ll defeat any zap device known to man and alien.

Apparently, prescient dreams are only useful if one has time to DO something about the impending disaster….

Really great story, and a unique interpretation of the prompt!

No, I think we’re better off not knowing. Especially if it involves getting shot in the back by a blobby alien.

Now that would be cool – to be able to control your dream is great (I could do it to a certain extent when I was little) – but to able to control a dream which marked out your future…
