“The only residents remaining in the small town of Miners Hill are spirits.”

“That was the end of the myth? Heavy,” said Chad.

“Yep,” said Brad. “And there it is. Miners Hill.”

“Wow. It really is black and white. I thought it was just an old photo.”

They scrambled down the hill.

“Spirits, the myth says? What kind, d’ya think?”

“I’m hopin’ vodka, whisky, maybe even… the Good Stuff.”

“Wow. Advocaat? Heavy.”

Suddenly a host of ghostly apparitions appeared.

“Whoa!” Chad pulled the joint out of his mouth and stared at it suspiciously.

“I can see them too, and I’m not even high!” said Brad.

“Oh, dude, you gave up?” asked Chad sympathetically.

“Yeah, it’s kinda tough…”

“IF YOU TWO DON’T MIND?” broke in one of the spirits. “YOUR SOULS ARE FORFEIT.”

“No! Not my Nikes!” Chad looked in dismay at his footwear.

“SOULS. WITH A ‘U’.”

And so the lads joined the ranks of the dead, booze in hand, weed in mouth, the highest spirits of Miners Hill.

LOL! “No! Not my Nikes!” Haha! Cute story. So those dudes are the highest spirits in the spirit realm??

For sure, given that somehow they’re still managing to smoke the weed 🙂

The lads should have paid more attention in English class. Spelling and punctuation DO count. So does knowing that there’s more than one meaning to a word. And homonyms — a particularly English kind of confusion. Love it.

They certainly should have thought a bit more about that word, though their mindset predisposed them towards booze!

Funny made me think of Cheech and Chong American stoners from the 70’s.

Funny, but I thought “are they experiencing a combined, drug induced hallucination?”
Apparently is it possible. Your stories are always so thought proving which is what makes a good story. 😀

That’s entirely possible, given what they’re drinking/smoking at any given moment!

It would be interesting to visit a town full of stoned ghosts… especially in living black and white!

It would probably take the edge off the terror a bit, seeing them weaving around and slurring. Chad and Brad are a bad influence!

Thanks! I’m glad my stories make you want to read. Actually, if I could think of a whole plot, I reckon Chad and Brad would make good characters for an actual novelette.

I’ve certainly seen a similar photo for some story at some point in the past.

If you don’t vaporize, run them off a cliff, bury them, chop them up, you’ve already written the story’s for Cad and Brad.

I am going to guess losing Chad and Brad to Miners’ Hill is no great loss to the rest of the world. In fact, the spirits may regret that later on.

I had to look up Advocaat…which led to Google asking if I wanted egg nog. Yech!

I tried to think of some tipple that most people hate and which wouldn’t really sound like Chad and Brad’s “thing” 🙂

Funny story, Ali, They sound a little like Bill and Ted, who I dearly love. You might want to change the word “The” in line five to “They.” That doesn’t take away from the fact it’s a great story. 😀 — Suzanne
