Lydford Gorge
Last week I went on a trip to Lydford Gorge, in Devon. Yes, I summoned up my courage and crossed the border! I took over 160 photos so I’ve chosen a few and put most of them into a slideshow, otherwise this would be a huge post.
It has a “spectacular” waterfall. Niagara Falls, eat your heart out.

It was a wonderful day, too, mid 20s C. I couldn’t stop myself from snapping away, thank goodness for digital cameras! It was so quiet and peaceful.

You live in a very beautiful area and your pictures are better each time I see them.
Actually, having been there, I know for real it’s gorgeous. You’d like it here, too. We are a little less rural. Not much, but a bit. Lots of river and woods, though. And dams and waterfalls and birds 🙂 Drop by!!

Beautiful! Last year, we moved from Denver to SoCal – and now we miss the easy access to dense forests and wooded areas that we had.

SoCal – Southern California?
I’m really lucky – in Cornwall beaches (of course), cliffs, woodland and moorland are all within a few miles in any direction. I’d love to be somewhere within driving distance of more arid terrain like desert though, and also more mountainous terrain. I’ve always loved photos I’ve seen of the Grand Canyon, the Rockies and so on. Can’t have everything, though 🙂

Yes, Southern California – Los Angeles, to be precise. The climate really is as wonderful as they say, but that’s about it. The greenery, though all around, is pretty artificial – the hills and open spaces are mostly bare.
I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments about mountains – I just love them. But the desert and arid terrain are not for me. I prefer cold & wet to hot & dry.

I think I would like to visit a desert, but probably wouldn’t want to actually live next to one.

I have just finished the novel “The signature of all things” by Elizabeth Gilbert. The book gave me an awe and respect for mosses and lichen. Your photos are spectacular.

The problem with this place was I wanted to (and in many cases did) take pictures of everything, it was all so lovely.
