Sharing My World 2015 Week 27

Here is my Share Your World, courtesy of Cee at her photography blog.

What is your favourite month of the year?
Mmm, tricky one. Let’s take a look.

  • January – too cold, Christmas just over, back to work with a vengeance
  • February – pointless
  • March – rain, not quite Spring yet, still cold
  • April – neither one thing nor the other
  • May – not summer yet
  • June – potentially warm but probably not, rain likely
  • July – holidaymakers start arriving, add 15 minutes to evening commute
  • August – holidaymakers everywhere, add 25 minutes to evening commute, can’t go anywhere because everywhere is full of holidaymakers
  • September – rain
  • October – rain, windy
  • November – another pointless month
  • December – has Christmas in it (yay), too cold, might snow or freeze so I’m constantly worried about driving

Conclusion – none of them.

Do you drink coffee at all?
Do I ever! Mmm, coffee.

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?
I had a summer job for three months before going to university. I was working in the computer room at the county council. It was quite cool and allowed me to save up some pennies before leaving for my studies. Remember the old films with computers where you see flashing lights and big tapes in big machines whirring round? It was exactly like that! One of my jobs was to put the tapes in the machines.

List: If you play video/computer games list 5 games you like?

  • Witcher 3 (that’s what I’m playing at the moment)
  • The Mass Effect series
  • The Elder Scrolls series (Oblivion, Skyrim)
  • The Last of Us (“like” may not be the right word – I’m terrified of this game, it’s too realistic)
  • Gears of War

Looks like December comes closest to your favorite month. Too bad about the weather. Well done, Ali. 😀

The weather spoils everything :-(. Fortunately we don’t get it as cold as the rest of the country 🙂

It’s a pity the tourists spoil the summer for you, but I suppose that’s the price of living in such a beautiful county. I grew up in a seaside town (when Brisish resorts still flourished) so I l know what you mean. I like the way you’ve analysed the months in question one, and must agree with Suzanne. December comes closest to being your favourite.

I guess December is okay! Certainly work is more relaxed as Christmas approaches and it’s nice to see the decorations up.
I wouldn’t mind so much about the tourists if I could get home from work. I’ve found a short cut now, though! Well, it’s several miles longer but much quicker 🙂

Locals always find the short cuts. The hard part is in keeping them secret. 🙂

Sometimes in a queue people see a local car suddenly shoot off and follow it. Then the cat’s out of the bag!

Yes, I suppose there’s no avoiding that. It’s so dificult for local people to carry on as normal at such times. It’s the same story all over the Peak District, which isn’t too far from here (and one example we teachers always spout about in geography lessons!) 🙂

hang on, aren’t you in Famous Five country? when during the year does running around the hillsides after little dogs, picnicking and hunting for pirate treasure occur?? :p

Most of their adventures were set in Dorset, apparently. But very similar countryside. I guess that all happens in August during school holidays (with lashings of ginger beer of course) 🙂

Hah, I had to laugh about your months, because I can’t decide on one either, but for exact the opposite reasons. I’m going to copy your way of analyzing when I write my answers.

I’m glad you liked my in-depth analysis! Maybe I was a little harsh. I guess the months each have something positive as well. Except for February, obviously 🙂

I agree with February being pointless, at least that’s how I felt about the last two Februaries.

It’s just there to fill up space, really. The only thing it has going for it is its shortness. Less time to pay day!

When I started college, the “computer center” was like that … tapes and lights and whirring. All it seemed able to do was keep records on the university’s vending machines 😀

It was similar when I started university even. A whole room (though by then quite a small room) dedicated to a minicomputer and tape deck. With less processing power than my phone, I would imagine.

We obviously need to trade in the months we already have for some different months! Phooey to them all!

Interesting post… so you have given away a hint at your age with your first job info 😉 As for coffee, “mmmmm coffee”. I am so not a gamer, the only one I am actually familiar with is skyrim and that’s because my daughter is an avid player (I had to ask her about the other ones). And I would like to correct you that November is not a useless month… ah-hem, some pretty important people have been born in that month, hint, hint… 🙂

At least I worked with tapes and not punch cards!
Hmm, I wonder who could have been born in November… 😉
