Jedd increased speed as his pursuer swerved around another vehicle. Terrified, he threw caution to the winds, flooring the accelerator.

Who could want him so badly?

So preoccupied was he that he missed the brake lights ahead. At the last second, screaming, he swerved into the crash barrier. Legs crushed, terrified, helpless, he saw a shadowy figure approach. It rapped on the side window, which promptly shattered. He saw the face of… his dear old mum!

“Sorry about that, dearie. You forgot your packed lunch!” she said brightly, handing him his sandwiches before roaring off again. Jedd began to cry.

Well, it’s too bad his legs are crushed. But he’s got lunch, so that’s good!

    Dear Ali,

Do Mum and Ezra have a thing going? Strange days indeed. Most peculiar, Mama. But a good read.

A few people have interpreted this darker route! It could well be his dead mum calling him home…

How typical of a mum to think of his stomach. I’ll say one thing, she must be one heck of a driver. Pity about Jedd’s legs, though. Hopefully the damage is no more than a few weeks in hospital can sort out – followed by a few more weeks/months on crutches. He’ll be right as rain in no time at all 🙂

Man, you have a twisted imagination! That was both disquieting, horrifying, and funny — a little like a truncated Coen Brothers movie.
Especially galling for your protagonist must have been the fact that she pursued him, hunted him down, handed him his lunch, and pushed off without so much as a “Are you all right, luv?”! What a strange mother!
    Loved it, of course!

She is a strange one! I’m wondering if she’s gone walk-about from some secure facility somewhere. I don’t know if Jedd is crying in relief, shock, thankfulness for his lunch, fear for his mum or pain.
      I’m glad you liked it!
