Sharing My World 2015 Week 40

Here is my contribution to Cee’s Share Your World. Week 40 already!

share-your-world2

If you have been to a foreign country name those you have been to?
Well, to Cornish Nationalists England, Scotland and Wales are foreign countries so can I claim them? 🙂 On top of those,

  • Germany (up in the north) twice on school exchanges
  • Germany (Stuttgart, in the south) for a year during my first degree
  • Switzerland (for a day trip during the afore-mentioned year in Germany)
  • France a couple of times (day trip and business meeting)
  • The Netherlands a couple of times (business meetings)
  • Ireland (four years)

That’s it, I think. I haven’t been to most of the usual places like Spain. And some places many people go to have become too dangerous or have “changed hands”. My parents managed to visit Crimea shortly before it became unexpectedly Russian.

Is the glass half empty or half full? What type of glass is it and what is in the glass?
Any old glass will do! I’m known as a pessimist (though apparently I’ve been showing a more positive attitude over the last year). So my glass has a dribble of water left in the bottom. There’s a fly floating in it. It’s struggling to get out. But it won’t.

If you could have an endless supply of any food, what would you get?
Hmm, tricky. All the foods I would like an endless supply of would cause massive obesity and early death, like ice cream, chocolate and pizzas. But if the calories, fat, sugar and salt weren’t an issue I’d either go for a premium expensive(ish) chocolate like Thornton’s or Lindt, or an expensive cheese.

List:  List at least five places worth shopping.
Five? FIVE? I pretty much buy everything on Amazon. I buy my groceries at Tesco but it’s neither good nor bad, it’s just “there”. I occasionally get stuff from Argos (like my bed, or small things like shower curtains). I bought my cooker from Appliances Online – I can recommend them, they were very efficient. I bought bedding for my new bed from Dunelm, they have a good range.

There you go, five. Though I’ve only used the last two once each! Looks like I really do buy nearly everything from Amazon.

      Four and five were one-offs.
I have a credit card I only use on Amazon and when my annual statement came last year – well, let’s just say it all adds up doesn’t it? 😦

Good answers, Ali. It was a bit dark with the fly. With the world the shape it’s in now, it’s safer to stay home. Well done. 🙂

I had a lovely day, thanks! Dinner with my parents, a nice home-cooked meal and film the evening before with my friends.
Online shopping is perfect for lazy people for me 🙂

It saves a lot of trips into town! I still go and do my own grocery shopping but probably one day I’ll do that online as well.

No matter where you go in the world, there’s always Amazon. It’s a bit like MacDonald’s.

    You should come visit America.

It would be fun, but America has very restrictive entry requirements and I don’t qualify for the visa waiver scheme so I’d have to fill out forms, pay fees, travel all the way to the embassy in London for an interview… yeeks!

Really? Even just to visit? That’s a bummer.

Sadly yes. If someone has ever had any run-ins with the police in any country ever (even if nothing ever came of it), or has any mental disorder, they have to go to the embassy in London to explain to the US authorities why they should be allowed to visit and that they’re not a danger to anyone. It’s just too much hassle and too much money.

Amazon is also a very big source of the good stuff. Probably 90% of my online stuff. I don’t buy the other stuff very often and Amazon is very good at customer service and quick delivery. So they win!

Amazon????? Here I thought you were trash talking me about my shopping habits. Translation: If “trash talk” does not compute… It means a friendly picking on of a person. (Sometimes it crosses into rather bold and not so friendly??? Too much heat being felt on the tennis or basketball courts…

Exactly. 80 years on a diet of lettuce and seaweed or 75 years on pizzas, chocolate and ice cream. Hmm…

You really must try to get rid of that fly and fill your glass right up! Lots of chocolate often does the trick 🙂 until the guilt sets in afterwards. 😦 And the rest of Britain isn’t that bad, once you venture out from your Cornish nest (lovely as it is).

It’s a shame chocolate always comes with guilt 😦
