Friday Fictioneers – Something New
Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, which marks Rochelle’s third anniversary as FF host! To celebrate, in a break to usual draliman fare, my story this week is unashamedly a sort of tribute to this landmark. In a sort of analogous way. With the name changed. And the gender. And there’s a bus. But I’m sure you get the idea!

Fielding thought back to that sunny afternoon, three years ago almost to the day. His life had been good but change is good too, right? So he’d decided to mix things up a bit, take on something new.
He’d boarded that bus back in 2012, ready to visit new territory, meet the challenge. Since that time he’d seen murder and intrigue, philosophy, comedy, pathos, even horror (though he had to admit he wasn’t so keen on the zombies).
Looking back, he knew he’d made the right decision. He’d done good. Everyone said so, and his new undertaking was thriving. Congratulations, Fielding!

I need to find out who to call to get some more humane treatment for those poor creatures. Making them ride in the luggage compartment is cruel and unjust. Cruel and unjust, I say! I will stand for it no longer. Because I am sitting. On the bus. Uh, yeah, I have no idea where I’m going with this. Don’t mind me. Carry on.

Adventure, excitement, a Jedi craves not these things…oh yeah, I forgot…we’re writers, not Jedis. You have to admit though, we get taken on all types of exciting adventures each week. It’s been a fun three years, let’s hope it continues for many more 🙂

Beautiful tribute! I got on the bus very late, and then stepped off at an interesting stop, but I’ve not lost the luster of the ride, can’t wait to get back on at the next stop!

Beat the zombies back, and run away with the showgirls (imho). You can never go wrong with the showgirls (unless they happen to be zombies).

This is a lovely honoraria, Dr. Ali. I had no idea it was Rochelle’s Friday Fictioneers blog-iversary. That’s one of the very first creative-writing posts I did on my current blog; I think it was about lamps, so I owe Rochelle a lot in helping me jump into the pool and take the risk. I love the ‘night bus’ concept of Harry Potter, too, and I get a little sense of that here with Fielding. Oh, if his bus walls could talk; but, then again, they can . . . and they point here to your blog (as well to the many, many others by FF postees). Bravo, Rochelle & participating writers for putting your work out there constantly for critique!

Three years is a long time to be organising something like this, she’s doing a great job! FF was also the first creative writing I did on my blog, just as I was starting to think about stopping blogging, and it gave me a new lease of life 🙂

Yes, I’ve done a few outside my comfort zone (this one for example – not exactly dark humour) – and it can be very rewarding.
