Pizza by Draliman!

I mentioned in a post last week that I was going to try making my own pizza. And I did! Here’s how it all began.

Evil Dr. Zog's hidden volcano lair.

Evil Dr. Zog’s hidden volcano lair

I carefully mixed the flour into the water/yeast/sugar. They don’t tell you that when you do that, the water starts leaking out. And it’s gross. And no matter how much flour you put on your hands, the dough still sticks to you.

That done, it’s time to chop basil for the sauce while waiting for the dough to rise and go springy or whatever.

At last I get to use my big death knife

At last I get to use my big death knife

Fingers still miraculously intact, I check the dough. It has risen, hooray!

Risen and springy and whatnot

Risen and springy and whatnot

Open the fridge – what to put on it? Everything!

Pile it on!

Pile it on!

Into the oven and – ta-da!

Yum

Yum

My first baking since Home Economics at school, early 1980s. Very tasty!

Yeah, it was like magic or something. It started as a big clump and after an hour was all springy and stretchy and stuff! Yay yeast 🙂

Yes, I got it from my friends round the corner for my birthday. Fortunately I still have my old one (the one with the risen dough on) – I needed both for this job!
      Yay pizza 🙂

I’m impressed. Anything involving yeast and rising dough is a major enterprise. I used to bake bread, but gave it up because it would take me all day to make the bread … and 30 seconds for my friends and family to consume it. Hope you save a little pizza for the next day. All that effort deserves at least a two-day run 🙂

I was worried nothing was going to happen, but I stuck it near the gas fire under a damp cloth and by the time I’d watched an episode of “Jessica Jones” in Netflix it was good to go 🙂
I had pizza the next day too!

It’s official: everyone is better at making homemade pizza than I am. 😉 I try to console myself by thinking that if I was any good at making pizza, I’d just eat pizza more often. Watch out, that might happen to you too, now that you’re a super black belt expert in pizza making!

Ha, yes! I learnt a couple of lessons for next time – less dough, less topping. I went all in this time 🙂

p.s. You’ve more than a few good cooks in, ask for a few different pizza topping, I’m certain the combinations will come in handy when yours gets tiring. It happens.

Awesome! I haven’t baked anything since my oven went kaput four years ago, and rarely used it when it worked…. but I once got a wild hair and made squirrel cookies from semi-scratch for Christmas Eve and impressed myself with the results… plus, I managed not to poison anyone in my family.

To be fair, it’s hard to go wrong with flour, yeast and water 🙂 Though it looked pretty dodgy at the early mixing stage.
      It was very tasty!

It was very yummy! For two meals, as I used too much dough and topping so it was quite filling 🙂
The chopping board was a birthday present from my friends in the village. Cool, isn’t it?

Very impressive. I’m pretty sure Jamie Oliver has a pizza dough recipe that doesn’t even involve yeast – I usually opt for the easiest thing possible. But I suppose it depends what kind of pizza base you like.

BTW, as I’m reading this, it’s 7.30pm and I’m still waiting for my partner to make the dinner he said he’d make at about 5.30pm, so I could eat anything at this point – my mouth is watering at the thought of your pizza!
