FFfAW – Countdown

I thought I’d have my first go at Priceless Joy’s Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers. This involves a photo (this week contributed by Sonya) and 100-150 words (+/-25).

I immediately saw an Apollo landing thingumy when I saw this picture :-). Click on the blue froggy to read the other stories.

“What the Hell sort of landing was that? We were supposed to splash down in the sea!”

“I’m guessing we didn’t. Millions of miles of ocean and we missed. Maybe restarting the Apollo missions was a bad idea.”

“Well, we’re back home and safe! The three heroes. Any landing you can walk away from, and all that…”

We’re safe. Lieutenant Wilkins wasn’t so lucky.”

“Why, what’s wrong with him?”

“Scoot round and take a look. His acceleration couch failed.”

“Woah, nasty. That’s just wrong. I’m not cleaning that up. And then there were two…”

“Well, best disembark, I suppose. Just get out of these straps…”

“Careful you don’t slip on Wilkins on the way out.”

“Urgh! Just open the door here… half a million miles and now we’re home… ahhhhhh!” (splat)

“Wow, how’d we end up all the way up here? And then there was one…”

Hahaha! I’m guessing they landed in a tree! LOL! Lt. Wilkins must have been smashed by his couch. Restarting the Apollo missions probably wasn’t such a good idea. 😀 😀 Great story Ali! Happy to have you join us on FFfAW challenge!

There’re not having a very successful end-of-mission are they 😦

Well, that’s quite a start – I fear for the last astronaut, tbh… Great take on the picture, though 🙂

LOL… That was funny as hell! Figures that with budget shortfalls NASA would cut corners on those acceleration couches. Astronauts are expendable, after all and rocket fuel is awfully pricey. Great job!

Once Ground Control has all the mission data, it’s just a bonus if the astronauts make it back. I expect the acceleration couches were made by the lowest bidder (as was the re-entry system, apparently!). Glad you liked it!

Oh my. Sounds like there was some pretty nasty deaths on the way home from space. Plus, one astronaut who didn’t look before he leaped. Great story

Such a shame, after flying all that way. Space travel is dangerous! I’m glad you liked it 🙂

Well, we’ll hope the next landing, if there is one, will be a bit more successful. Were they wearing “red” by any chance? Hilarious is a dark way, Ali. Well done. 😀 — Suzanne

It couldn’t go much worse! They were wearing red – maybe they should have demanded a less “cannon-fodder” colour 🙂

Funny! Yet, not so funny if it becomes reality. Where is our well planned, well financed missions? We may be starting from square one again!!! Great story. 🙂

Let’s hope it all remains fiction, especially with all these commercial companies trying to start space flight. I hope they know what they’re doing 🙂 I’m glad you liked it!

Given where that tower has to be located, that poor astronaut probably landed in a cow pie. Maybe one large enough to cushion the blow enough to leave him merely paralyzed…

I only joined Instagram a couple of weeks ago. I keep taking pictures but can’t think of/haven’t got time to construct a whole blog post around them, so Instagram seemed perfect for that. You don’t need to be signed up to view most people’s photos, though, I don’t think.

Very funny and totally gross, but it makes for a great read. I like the way you’ve used the ‘and then there were none’ theme. It works really well, and leaves us wondering what type of demise awaits Number 3! 🙂

I think I must have accidentally unfollowed you at some stage, Ali. I’ve never noticed the little ‘follow’ thingy pop up before, so it must have been recently. I followed you at the beginning of 2015, and thought I still did follow you! I’ll click on it now, anyway. Sorry about this.

I saw the notification and thought “that’s odd”. Thanks for re-following me 🙂

However, sometimes the “Follow” thing can be “false” (I just checked with your website on Edge – I usually use Chrome – and it said I’m not following you). This is because I wasn’t logged into WP on Edge (used to be called IE) so it had no way of knowing who I’m following. Also different browsers don’t share cookie information.

Well, that was more info than you probably wanted 🙂

It was all interesting, Ali, but I think it was probably me on my Kindle. I’ve accidently hit that ‘follow’pop-up thing a few times and unfollowed people. It’s in an annoying place in that corner down there (for clumsy oafs like me, that is). Thank you for understanding.

Yeah, I’m not sure why they changed that. It used to be a nice thing at the top of the page which told you if you followed, commented, liked etc. And it was out of the way.
