Of all the places I thought I would end up on New Year’s Eve I can’t believe it’s here. I used to be somebody. I used to be a contender. Last New Year’s Eve I was in a boxing gym. I saw the greats. I was punched by pretty much anybody who was somebody.

Okay, so I’m a bunch of processed petrochemicals. I don’t get a choice of career.

But the boxing gym… Oh, the joy as a gloved fist smacked me hard. Those people knew how to live!

Whap – boing! – whap – boing!

Life doesn’t get any better than that.

And now I’ve been recycled as a bowling pin. I still get smacked in the face, but it’s not so personal any more, you know? Just a ball rolled down an aisle. There’s no finesse. No “up close and personal”. Trashed by a random unknown at long range. Oh, the dents I’ve suffered. The indignity of it all!

Here comes another one. It’s swerving, it going to miss me, it’s just gonna clip the edge… ouch! Tough luck, Chester, my fellow pin-at-arms. That had to hurt! Hey! No strike this time, loser. Loooserrrrr!

Let me get this right, you’re talking about leather bowling pins?

I was thinking plastic. The punch bag I used to have as a kid was plastic, I’m sure some gyms are tight enough not to go for leather and I’m sure not all bowling pins are wood 🙂

Yeah, I’m pretty certain there are bowling pins made of all kinds of weird materials out there.

Nice twist on the prompt. Glad you could join up for the first one. Hope to see you next week. (And a death or two never really hurt anyone)

That’s got to be a first, Ali, the POV of a bowling ball. Well done. 😀 — Suzanne

Darn it, I was really hoping to see some hideous, grotesque bowling pin death! My league has been off the last two weeks due to the holidays, and this picture’s really got me missing it!

When your league starts up again you can try to create a hideous bowling pin death. Just chuck the ball really really hard!

I already bowl like that anyway. Amazingly, you can throw it as hard as you want and still not knock them all down. Stupid recycled pins!

I knew someone once who trundled the ball up the aisle. You’d stand there for a few minutes watching it and just when you thought it wasn’t going to make it all the way to the end, it would slowly and sedately knock all the pins over. Frustrating!

Reminds me of the time I once witnessed a little kid roll a ball up the lane so slow that they managed to knock over only the head pin and nothing else! (The ball immediately caromed to the gutter) It was maybe the most impossible sounding result I have ever seen…

I love the way your mind works, a great take on the photo. I looked at this but the photo stumped me completely. Nice job Alistair. I will be playing catch up with your posts (again) soon.

They’re pretty unforgiving. And I’m sure they jump sideways sometimes when my ball approaches 🙂

He’s a bit of a complainer but I reckon he’ll have fun yelling at all the bowlers 🙂

Now that’s what I call a bowling pin with attitude! I love this take on the prompt, Ali. The personification of a lump of plastic (or, better still, ‘a bunch of processed petrochemicals’) recycled at that – makes for an unusual and funny story. 🙂
