Sharing My World 2015 Week 52
Here is the last of my posts for Cee’s Share Your World for 2015. Even though I didn’t get round to squeezing it out in 2015 :-).
Tell how you are feeling today in the form of a weather report. (For example, partly cloudy, sunny with a chance for showers, etc.)
Misty and drizzling with a small possibility of sunshine poking through on occasion, mostly at the weekends.
(This is the wrong question to ask me in January. January sucks!)
What is most memorable about your high school years?
I don’t know the age range for “high school” so I’ll assume 12-16. I have a little list!
- Two school trips to London
- Rushing out of class at break time to grab a tennis court
- Playing yo-yo’s at break time
- Triple Latin (not memorable in a good way)
- Summer holidays which seemed to last forever, back in the days when the sun actually came out during the summer
Have you ever owned a rock, pet rock, or gem that is not jewellery?
“Pet rock”? Is that a thing?
I had one or two nice little rocks that we’d bought from visiting mines and whatnot. I think one was a lovely amethyst.
Complete this sentence: I like watching…
… all manner of things, mainly on Netflix and Amazon Prime. I’ve just finished “Hemlock Grove” and “How to Get Away with Murder” (series one) on Netflix, and I’m currently watching “Sleepy Hollow” and “The Walking Dead” (series 4) on Amazon. There’s always something to watch on those two services.
And finally, in case anyone is interested, you can click here to read my 2015 annual report, which I think I have successfully made “public”.
“The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 20,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 7 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.”
As recommended above by WordPress, I have tried to book Sydney Opera House for a blog performance, but I haven’t heard back yet :-(.

Actually, Ali, high school in the U.S. is grades 9-12, about ages 14-18. Pet rocks were once all the rage. They were just rocks in fancy boxes and a gimmick. People actually bought the dumb things because it was a fad. The man that thought it up got rich from it. Good answers. 🙂 — Suzanne

Ah, thanks! We have “secondary school”, which is 11 or 12 to 16 year olds. Then we have 17-18 which is Sixth Form (when attached to a school, using “school” in the UK, not US sense) or college. That’s optional, though, many people leave school at 16.
I think the pet rock thing must have passed me by! I was never much of a one for fads 🙂

Interesting to learn the school about school in the UK. What do these 16 year olds do?

They either get a job, an apprenticeship or go on the dole I guess. 16-18 used to be “schools” pretty much always but that’s quite rare now. It’s more “further education colleges” and more and more people are staying on until 18, I think. Colleges are more like universities in that it’s not the rigid school atmosphere, for example, when I was 18 and still at “school”, I wasn’t allowed to leave the grounds at lunch time, even though I was an adult. It’s no wonder people used to want to leave as soon as possible!

There’s always something to watch which is probably why I can never finish writing my stories. 🙂

Yours may be the only annual report I have ever seen where your five most popular posts were all posted that year. Mine is the complete opposite… my Top 5 were all written before 2015. My writing has “staying power,” but apparently my new stuff really sucks!

I didn’t even notice! I think I probably read more Friday Fictioneers and in return got mine read.

I split the Louvre with you. More than half of my “best of” for 2015 wre written in 2014 or earlier. I guess my current stuff isn’t quite as snappy. I think maybe I’M not as snappy!

My stuff doesn’t have such longevity, and I rarely use tags for flash fiction, so it doesn’t get hit in Google as a rule. You’re as snappy as ever!

What does a pet rock do?
And it actually became an all time rage?

That craze must have passed me by, though I seem to remember something about it from long ago. At least you don’t have to feed it 🙂

Tennis- awesome. I would love to see teh courts of Wimbledon? Have you been there? What is triple Latin?
LikeLike
No, I haven’t been to Wimbledon myself.
Triple Latin is three lessons of Latin back to back, which when I was at school was 3 times 35 mins. Pretty bad!

Wow! We had Latin… one class a day. I could not imagine ‘homework ‘ for three periods at a time?

Those are great numbers, that you thoroughly deserve, Dr. Ali. I hope the Opera House has gotten back in touch with you by now. It would be interesting to see a blog performed, especially this one. Do you have some fake blood and/or apocalyptic backdrops on standby, maybe a gal who screams on cue?! 🙂

I’m still waiting to hear, but you’re right – I need to get the cast and props department in order first so I’ll give them a few more days 🙂
