“There it is!” cried Maglatosh, rushing forward.

“Yes, yes, on the pavement next to that ugly yellow plant life,” replied Gringadesh. “We are so close, Maglatosh!”

Maglatosh bent over for a closer look. “These symbols on the cover, they must be the ancient glyphs of Gragnok, The Destroyer.”

“Indeed,” replied Gringadesh. “I’ve never seen them myself, but they must be, yes!”

The companions stared at each other for a moment, scarcely able to believe that after so many years they had finally found it. The key to the destruction of Earth.

Gringadesh bent down, levered the hatch open and peered inside. “Look! As prophesied, the Sacred Valve of Gragnok!”

“Turn it, turn it!” yelled Maglatosh. “The Earth shall die!”

Gringadesh turned the valve. From the other side of the wall, a frustrated voice called out.

“Miriam, my hose pipe’s stopped working! Did you turn off the water?”

“Hmm,” mused Gringadesh. “Maybe this isn’t the Sacred Valve of Gragnok after all.”

“I concur,” said Maglatosh. “Our search continues!”

Funny! Not quite the response they were expecting when they turned the Sacred Valve. Ah well, keep looking!

I’m guessing this isn’t the first disappointment they’ve encountered on their quest. Let’s hope they never find it!

I seem to recall my bedroom once doubled as the teleporter room from British sci-fi series Blake’s 7.
Kids, aliens or a somewhat mad Armageddon cult? I wasn’t sure so I left it open 🙂

    Haha!
‘Turn it, turn it!’ As I reader , I could feel the excitement they were going through on finally finding the secret seal. And of course the fear of earth destruction as an earthling And then the hose pipe dialog came along. 😂
Great job with the story. 🙂

Thanks! Yes, they were pretty excited when they thought they’d found it. But better the loss of water to one house than the entire planet!
I’m glad you liked it 🙂

LOL! They didn’t find the sacred valve they found the water meter to someone’s home! Hahaha! I guess they didn’t find the key to the destruction of the earth. Great story! I enjoyed reading this.

Maybe when the guy’s switching his water back on he’ll turn it too far anticlockwise and then – kaboom!

I could actually see this happening. A scene out of Monty Python! Great writing!

I was hoping the secret valve might give them a face full of sewage. Welcome to Earth!

Where do you come up with those names? 😛 You do such a great job creating your characters and settings.

The names just come to me I guess. I’m a lot better with weird names than human names – everyone seems to be called George or Tom in my stories!

Well, yeah, because sunflowers aren’t ugly. Of course it was the wrong valve! 😀

Maglatosh and Gringadesh have no appreciation for the finer things in life. Like sunflowers. Or finding the correct valve 🙂

Ali, you’ve done it again. This was hilarious. I guess Gragnok was exaggerating a bit. It would take more than one valve to shut off all water on earth and destroy it. Well done. 😀 — Suzanne
