The End of Days

I thought I would do a story for Sunday Photo Fiction this week, which is hosted by Al Forbes and asks for a story of around 200 words. The photo looked like fun! It’s a smidge over 200 words, sorry. I cut it down as much as I could!

With a flash of lightning and clap of thunder a dread figure appeared. All the Peoples of the Earth looked up in dismay.

“THIS IS THE END OF THE DAYS OF MAN!” it declaimed. All the Peoples of the Earth wept in fear.

“YOUR TIME AS A RACE HAS COME TO AN END!” it continued. Everyone cowered in terror. “TODAY IS YOUR LAST… huh?”

There was a faint ringing sound. The Peoples watched as the demonic figure tapped its ear.

“I’m a bit busy, can’t this wait?” it said in a more normal tone of voice. “Say what now? You’re kidding me… huh?… No, no, I’m not happy, this is unbelievable. Fire the intern! Bye, bye, goodbye, bye.”

“AHEM. PEOPLES OF THE EARTH, HARKEN! THERE HAS BEEN A SLIGHT COCK-UP IN THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT.” The Peoples of the Earth shivered in confusion.

“ALLOW ME TO START AGAIN.” The figure cleared its throat. “THIS IS THE END OF THE DAYS OF DAN. IS THERE A DAN HERE?”

A small figure hesitantly raised its hand.

“AH, DAN, COME WITH ME, PLEASE. YOU’RE ABOUT TO HAVE A VERY BAD DAY. AS FOR THE REST OF YOU… I GUESS YOU’RE FINE. FOR NOW. FAREWELL!”

With another flash of lightning, both demonic figure and unfortunate Dan disappeared.

Funny! Now if we could make the demon perhaps have a Jamaican accent, then he can (please) take the one charlatan with the bad combover, among other “ugge,” horrible things about him. It could also be the last days of Don, right?! 🙂 The End of Days–subtitle “Apocalypse: Later.” 🙂

I assume you’re talking about Donald? There was an article I read today – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35828747 – the Economist Intelligence Unit has published its list of top ten global risks. Donald Trump becoming president is in at number 6 🙂

Yeah, I think he calls himself “The Donald.” Glad he’s not the last man-0r mon-on Earth. That’s an interesting data point; not even some business sources are supporting him. Strange, so strange.

Out of over 7 billion people, he’s the only one named Dan. That was quite unlucky indeed…

Yeah, what are the odds? 🙂
I was originally going to have something like “somehow, deep inside, he knew that he was the ‘Dan’ referred to”, but word count, you know?

Sometimes, the word count restrictions actually help the story. Him being the only Dan cracked me up…

Indeed. Almost worse than his impending doom. Usually it would be a more intimate affair, but there was this little communications difficulty resulting in a world-wide announcement 🙂

I’ve always understood the End of Days would be announced by powerful angels assigned that task by God. It seems satan thought we were all going to hell. I hope he didn’t have a good reason to think that was right. I don’t know what punishment his stupid intern can suffer since he’s already in hell. Hilarious and well done, Ali.

This guy was just doing what he was told, I guess. I expect he was quite excited to find out (erroneously) that the Time had finally come! I wouldn’t want to be in the intern’s shoes right now…

This is the most hilarious story I’ve read from you.
From the confused information, to phone calls, to singling out just one individual.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! Was it the correct Dan? It was a Dan.
All extremely embarrassing for the demonic figure, I’m sure 🙂

LOL my son’s name is also Dan. He’s a naval officer so I’m thinking he’d bring the big guns into play about now and blast the demon to…oh yeah, he’s already come from there hasn’t he. Perhaps he’ll use the new Nanite-canon technology and put a flea in his ear and watch him slowly disintergrate 😉

It’s amazing how many people know a Dan! I expect slowly disintegrating would wipe the smile off the demonic figure’s face 🙂

Hahahahahaha! You never fail, Draliman! I adore this story. That demon seems, somehow, human … except for the end of the “unfortunate Dan.” Did he have a chance to squeak out a goodbye to anyone? Poor fellow!

Demons have to move with the times – if we met one in the street we may never suspect…
I think Dan was in such shock he just got whisked away 😦
