Sharing My World 2016 Week 15

Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World.

share-your-world2

Name one thing not many people know about you.
Ooh. Potentially if I mention something not many people now about me on here, 6 billion people will know it. Not that I have the many followers.

Yet (bwahahaha).

Okay then. In my mid-teens I had both big toenails permanently removed as they were massively in-growing and infected. I’ll spare you the gory details, but as it turns out big toenails are optional. So that’s one thing you really did not want to know about me.

If a distant uncle dies and you were always his favourite and leaves you $50,000 (any currency) in his will, what would you do?

It would be nice to say “pay off my mortgage” but I’d need more than a fifth of that inheritance to pay off even 1 year :-(. So let’s go cray-cray with it!

Let’s have a Ford Focus RS for starters. And that’s pretty much it. Turns out $50,000 isn’t that much after all. Though owning a car outright would give me £300 a month more disposable income, so the car’s an investment really :-).  I’ll use the rest for a little holiday to New Zealand to see the Hobbits.

Where do you hide junk when people come over?
In my bedroom of course. Unfortunately when my parents came over the other week they wanted to see my new bed and I ended up with a minor ear-bashing regarding “piles of stuff everywhere”. Remember the Golden Rule – mothers go everywhere.

Complete this sentence:  I want to learn more about…
Me! Who am I really? What makes me tick? What do I really want under the surface?

I know. It’s a can of worms.

Ooh, busted. Shame your parents wanted to see the bed. I heard a joke once when so many people were trying to find themselves. One woman said she found herself in the kitchen. I guess that’s as good a place as any. 😀 — Suzanne

Cool! It’s several weeks of major pain while they’re healing and hardening, mind – they used acid to burn off the nail beds :-(.

I did too. Once they’d healed it was totally worth it. Not a single moment’s pain for the last 30 years 🙂

Lucky you! I might have to see if my insurance will cover such a procedure. 🙂

Yes, it does suck. 😦 I am proud to be an American, but it really is a bit difficult to be sick here.

It would be wonderful to take a vacation to New Zealand! Mothers do seem to go everywhere!

Yeah, I thought I’d cleaned everywhere and Mum managed to find the one spot I’d missed (ie hoped she wouldn’t notice but the sun unexpectedly came out and illuminated it) :-).

LOL!! My mom is the same way. My place could be practically spotless but she would find the one little area that isn’t up to par.

What a good idea to get rid of something that was causing you pain. The weeks afterward sound difficult though. ❤

Just so you know, as a mother? I have learned to NOT go everywhere because I’m going to see something terribly distressing that I’ll then have nightmares about forever. Sometimes, where ones grown children are concerned, LESS is MUCH more. Much better, too.

Buying ABBA albums with your $50,000 sounds like a pretty good idea. And maybe you could even spring for some prosthetic toenails! 😛

Yeah, I could have bionic toenails. Who knows what powers they would have 🙂
      ABBA rocks!

Try to make it an extended business trip, then you’ll get there for naught. That’s how I saw New Zealand, long before the Hobbits moved there, as a postdoc.
And the toe nails: but, but, how do you paint them when they’re gone?

I suppose one could paint toenails on 🙂

Fascinating and funny! The toenail story made me go “Ouch!” Piles of stuff in the bedroom? More like my whole house, it sometimes seems to me! Yup, mothers DO go everywhere.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful world with us, Draliman!

I didn’t know that toenails could be permanently removed. I had half of mine cut off because of an infected ingrown toenail when I was about 13 but it grew back. I’ve been performing minor surgery on myself every couple of months since. I’ve often wondered what I will do when I become so inflexible that I can’t reach my feet. It’s good to know I have options, even if they are painful!

Yes, a few weeks of pain and then no more problems for the rest of your life! I’m glad they opted to go “whole hog” and just permanently remove mine.
