Limerick Challenge Week 22

Here is my limerick for Mind and Life Matters’ Limerick Poetry Challenge. This week, we have to start our limerick with the words “Once upon a time”.

This posed a challenge for two reasons – firstly, “upon” has too many syllables to make it read correctly, and secondly, I had no ideas! You have no idea how long I spent trying to rhyme “zombie”, “Abercrombie” and… something else. But I was determined to get a zombie in there somehow :-). Feel free to read “upon” as ‘pon if you’d like it to read better.

For this week’s other limericks, click on the blue froggy.

Once upon a time, I’ll explain
Lived a scientist, Igor by name
Sought his life to prolong
It went horribly wrong
Now he spends all his time eating BRAINS!

Mmm, yummy brains 🙂

Better to spend your time eating brains than trying to find a rhyme for “zombie”….

    Wait, but is it E-gor or Eye-gor?! Very funny stuff. I think you’ve got this limerick thing down-pat, Dr. Ali! {Time to invent a limerick machine or limerick code or?}

That might be fun – a piece of code for generating limericks. It would be funny to see what it comes up with!

I enjoyed the back story as well as the limerick and was laughing before I started reading it. Very clever and amusing insertion of zombie. I am thinking of Marty Feldman playing Igor. LOL. 😃

Good for you, Ali. but yuk. I shouldn’t read your stuff before a meal. It’s early morning here and I haven’t had breakfast yet. All the same, well done. 😀 — Suzanne

Oops! I’ve always scoffed at the idea of a zombie apocalypse but maybe this is how it will start!

It scans fine to me and the brains spread on toast very well. Now, do I add marmite?

Poor guy went mad trying to prolong his life and now all he can eat is brains. Hahaha! Doesn’t sound too tasty to me! Loved the limerick!

He became unfortunately zombie-fied, poor fellow. I’m sure brains are fine with a bit of hot sauce. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Too funny. I get something stuck in my head that I want to rhyme and it does make it harder –tho it’s never been zombie!

Sometimes I go through countless false starts before getting something which works. Tricky things, limericks!
