FF – Counting More Sheep
As it’s another re-run week on Friday Fictioneers, I have decided in my current lazy mood to re-post the same story I wrote 2 years ago :-).
Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle, the photo was contributed by Sandra Crook and the re-do was requested by Jennifer Pendergast.

“Look out! Run for your lives and don’t look back!”
“What? Are you not asleep yet? I thought you were counting sheep?”
“Yeah, awesome zombie sheep! They’ve surrounded a car and they’re eating the occupants. There’s blood and body parts everywhere. They’re bleating ‘baa baa baaaarains!’”
“Okay, this isn’t working. Try counting something else.”
“Like what?”
“Something a little more soothing. A little more sedate. Like cows. Try counting cows. I need to sleep myself, I’ve got a meeting tomorrow.”
“Cows it is then.”
Ten minutes later…
“Woah! Run!”
“Ugh. What is it now?!”
“Awesome vampire cows!”
Now that is what I call an overactive imagintion!

A warm milky drink before bedtime, less cheese and wine, I think. Maybe a rare steak, too.

I like the steak idea…

Oh dear, it’s going to be a looooooonnnng night.
Perhaps he should count stones?

That’s a good idea. Stones are fairly safely inanimate!

Good story, Ali. I agree there’s trouble ahead, A child with a big imagination can turn anything into a monster. Good writing. 😀 — Suzanne

Sometimes your imagination can be TOO good, if it keeps you up at night, thinking about zombies and vampires! Fun story, Ali.

There’s a fine balance imagination-wise. He’ll be too tired in the morning to translate his imagination into stories!

Ah, good point! Or maybe he’ll do what I do — write down that brilliant idea in the middle of the night, and wake to see that it’s gibberish. 😉

I guess counting any living thing wouldn’t be a good idea for someone with such an active imagination!

No, he wants to try something a bit more inanimate!

I think after that why not count wererabbits… They are even worse

True, as anyone who’s watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail will confirm!

I’ve been stuck in a herd of sheep a couple of times on the way home. They didn’t attack, though!

Dear Ali,
Glad you shared this again. That’s what summer showcase is all about. Being lazy and taking a breather. Although I don’t think this guy has the ability to relax. Fun stuff.

Zombie sheep and vampire cows, I love it. Maybe he should start out counting something horrible, can’t get worse then.

He could try that, but something tells me they’ll start forming wildly exciting shapes in his head 🙂

Great story. Curbing the imagination at the right time isn’t easy. Can’t say I’ve had a problem with zombie sheep or vampire cows, though. Lol. Perhaps you should move into the city, well away from these terrors of the countryside. 🙂

Nice story. Instead of counting cows or sheep, one might as well start counting vampires or zombies.
