Simon ran his hands lovingly over the treasures on the shelf. Each evoked an exciting memory.
‘That was a wonderful day in Bournemouth’, or ‘I remember what fun I had collecting that’ ran through his mind as he carefully took each one down in turn and studied it. It was his birthday, his treat day, and today he would add to his collection.
Gathering the tools of his trade, he set off towards the nearby school. The added danger fuelled his excitement.
He had never preyed so close to home before.

Thanks. There was story a couple of days ago of a sex attacker they just caught (in this country I think) – they reckon he’s been “indulging” every year on his birthday for decades.

But seriously, Ali, this was another good piece, although I think I knew what turn it was taking once you gave me the warning (trigger warning?). In any case, sorry I missed the birthday, digitally at least, but you have great company in October birthdays. My oldest, Oscar Wilde, Dylan Thomas, John Lennon, “Weird” Al, Sir Roger Moore, Ursula K. LeGuin, Rimbaud, Mae Jemison, Arthur Miller, Hugh Jackman, Chevy Chase, and the voice of Bart Simpson, among many others!

I also almost share my birthday with Margaret Thatcher! October sounds like a good month for birthdays.

Is that Dexter, as in based on the TV show about the serial killer? I had no idea it was a book before, and that’s one show I’ve never gotten around to. I generally agree with the idea, as a serious writer who lacks time, to kill my television as it’s a great distraction . . . but I still watch a fair amount. I’ve gotten hooked on Stranger Things a couple months ago, as well as The Walking Dead. I’m really late in coming to the latter.
The question is . . . do you WANT to be related to Thatcher (what was her nickname: the Iron Lady)? If Iron Man weren’t already taken, you could be that. Did you bake anything delightful for your birthday?! Hope you treated yourself to a new game or something! 🙂

Yes, it’s a series of books. The first book anyway is the same story line as series one.
A lot of my friends are into Stranger Things. I have it on my wish list but I’m in the middle of Luke Cage, Arrow and From Dusk Till Dawn among other things! I’m one series behind on Walking Dead as I wait until it’s free on Amazon Prime.
Say what you like about Thatcher, she sorted the country out!
I only baked some bread a couple of days after my birthday. Tasty though.

Thanks! Ha ha – my mind suddenly went blank thinking of destinations. My first thought was “Margate” but that just sounds too “Chaz and Dave” to be taken seriously 🙂

I would like to get back into the comic mood. Maybe next week a photo of bunny rabbits frolicking? But not near a main road. I blame the first “Dexter” book someone lent me recently 🙂 But I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Oh, how horrifying! A nice sentimental group of keepsakes, one might think! Or not. You’ve created a story that scared me and an eerily memorable character. Challenging to take this on in 100 words.
