Sharing My World 2016 Week 44
Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World.
What was your favourite subject in school?
Physics, I guess, because it was interesting and easy. My next choice would be English Language as we got to write stories. These days it could well be computers/ITC/whatever they call it, but we didn’t have computers in those days.
If you could have a servant come to your house every day for two hours, what would you have them do?
Cleaning and tidying of course! They would have the weekend off so they could do one room per day. However, I only have four rooms so on the Friday they could sort out the garden 🙂
Where did you live when you were in the third grade of school? Is it the same place or town you live now?
I’m not sure what “third grade” means, so I’m going to add three to the approximate starting age of school and get roughly eight years old – I’m hoping that’s what it means!
I’ve done a full circle – Cornwall to Surrey to Germany to Surrey to Hertfordshire to Hampshire to Ireland to Cornwall! Not in the same place exactly, but close 🙂
In your opinion, list some places that are great for shopping?
Not wishing to break its near 100% record on Share Your world this week, I’m going to say Amazon. I buy nearly everything except food on there. I view shopping as a chore rather than thinking somewhere is “great”.

Great to read about you again… Physics always was tough for me but chemistry was worst, I was good in maths though. I, too don’t like shopping much but my husband simply loves to shop!

Yep, third grade = 8 years old… although with the way it’s set up now, anyone not born in a summer month will turn 9 at some point during the school year. Add 5 to the “grade” for the American school system, and you’ll have the target age of that class…

Cool. We had a cut-off age too, some kids could be almost a year older than their friends.

Physics was not for me…. I am not sure I was even aware of ‘what’ it was until college. I was far more a canary… Music was where life was to be found!

I did a load of languages and stuff but physics was the one I carried all the way through as far as I could go.

Your family seemed to move quite often when you were in early school years. Since ya’ll don’t go by, first grade, second grade, third grade, what do ya’ll say in Britian?

It was just me that moved (university). My parents have lived in Cornwall for ever. Well, my dad forever, my mum for 50 years or so!
We used to have “first year of infants etc, then first year of junior school, then first year of secondary school etc. These days they have “year 1, year 2” etc so I guess that’s more like the American system.

Oh, it looked like ya’ll moved a lot. But it was just you with your university studies. That’s really different than the US (the older way you named them). The new names do sound more like the US.

Yes. The “new” ones still sound strange to me though. I guess it’s what you grow up with.

Neither was I. Until I was! The closest university to me was 100 miles away so I didn’t have a lot of choice.

Amazon has become the giant shopping mall in the ether. i don’t know how I did without it 🙂

With high street shops closing down or selling less sometimes there doesn’t seem to be much choice.

I had to do some shopping at the mall last week and it was horrible. Amazon is definitely the way to go!

Pretty much the only thing I don’t get online are my groceries. I hate the idea of hanging around at home waiting for someone to arrive.

Very true. I understood your words without having to Google (yay!) but I haven’t actually spoken German for well over 10 years. I haven’t even listened to my Toten Hosen CDs for a while!

I so wished I was good at physics, chemistry, and maths. I was, for a time, and then I wasn’t. I prefer the biological sciences to physics and maths now.
You sure moved a lot in university; did it help you become better at conversation (less introverted) or do the opposite? I went to two high schools and at one of them there were a lot of military families, so they were used to moving around a lot; for me, I thought I’d never get used to that.
Well, mach’s gut, Ali! Have a ‘wunderbar’ week! (I, too, have forgotten, sadly, most of the German I knew. Knowing der, die, oder das drives me nuts, and I seldom get those right.)

Amazon is one of those places that I hate to love / love to hate. The company has become such a monstrosity that a large part of me thinks I shouldn’t use it… But it’s just so useful!
