FF – Same Old
Here is my story for the 100 word Friday Fictioneers challenge, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo came from C. E. Ayr.
This story will either be mildly amusing or won’t make any sense whatsoever. I’m hoping people have read the book or at least seen the film. Sorry, I’m out of ideas today.

“This is it. Interdimensional portal.”
“Why the chain?”
“Tourist attractions always do that. Stop people seeing the cool stuff.”
“Like portals?”
“Like portals. This is gonna be great!”
“Yeah, massive! Let’s do this thing. I love this part, never know what you’re gonna find!”
They jumped the chain and entered the door.
Snow. Bitter cold. A lady on a sleigh to their left, a strange creature to their right, gesticulating wildly at them.
The pair shook their heads sadly and walked back through the door.
“Unbelievable. Narnia again. Why’s it always Narnia?”
“That bloody lion’s on his own this time. Beer?”

And so, the untold story is finally told. Aslan is not saved, alas … and Narnia is doomed. Pass me a cold one, would you?

Cute, Ali. See there—you’ve got another happy (or at least hilarious) ending!
Maybe there’s even some (subconscious?!) symbolism about jumping over a chain to enter a quasi-Christian fantasy world with lions and child warriors/leaders. 🙂

Hey, even Aslan’s entitled to a little R & R once in a while. I read all of the books with my son when he was young. We both enjoyed them. Good one.

Portals just never lead you anyplace interesting…. like light years into the middle of the vacuum of space, or maybe the core of the sun or trapped forever in the middle of a mountain. Always some silly fantasy world with strange creatures…. bah!

Oh man, not Narnia *again*! What a funny reaction to going through a portal, that cracked me up. I especially appreciate it because I just finished reading Lev Grossman’s Magician’s Land, which features a magical world that is basically an homage to Narnia, except written for adults — so the beer part would fit right in.
