FF – Poor Ned
Here is my story for the 100 word flash fiction challenge Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week she also provided the photo.

“Ugh. What the MyLittlePony is this?”
“Winter feed. Not a fan?”
“Neigh.”
“Get used to it. The grass is all wet and stuff so we get this instead.”
“What’re these hard bits?”
“Nutritional Supplement Number 87. Tasty. Ned’ll tell you. Where is Ned, anyway?”
“Last I saw, vet was with him. He didn’t look well.”
“Hope he’s okay.”
“I’m sure he’ll be fine. So what’s this under this patch of hay? Looks like a… a… face…”
“Let me see… oh. Oh dear.”
“What? What?”
“It’s Ned. Guess he didn’t make it. Tuck in, he always liked to be useful!”

Poor Ned. And to be so flippant about his demise.

There’s nothing like prescription medication to help along the humour! Hope you’re doing okay.

Nothing wrong with a little Soylent Green…. or whatever the equivalent is for horses. I only hope that if this ends up being my fate that I give someone a nasty case of indigestion…

Dear Ali,
Neigh? Love it. Your play on words is delicious…unlike Nutritional Supplement 87.

Dear Rochelle,
Anything starting with the words “Nutritional Supplement” is bound to taste bad 🙂

Poor horses having to eat the terrible winter feed! The stuff killed poor Ned. No problem. He is still going to be useful! LOL!

Bad enough to be a cannibal, but I’d want to know what Ned died of before digging in! Also, not sure I trust the “cook” who left a whole face in the pile, ew; does not bode well…

It could have been anything and it doesn’t sound like he was particularly “well done”, so… 😦

Love the dialogue between the horses, and as for the fate of poor Ned … oh dear. But I love the way you cleverly spring it on us at the end. A great script to present to Hammer House of Horror films here. 🙂
