Sharing My World 2016 Week 52

Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World. It seems a bit odd doing “2016 Week 52” in 2017. Maybe I should have done it yesterday.

What’s your favourite ice-cream flavor?
I’m a big fan of many many ice cream flavours! I think one of my favourites is a mascarpone one by Carte D’Or (Walls). I like the red berry sauce. I also like black cherry flavour.

If you were to treat yourself to the “finer things” what would you treat yourself to?
Maybe quality food – decent meats, cheese and so on. Yesterday I baked a load of cupcakes, some for me, some to take to give to my parents and brother later on today. They don’t look great (first time I’ve made icing!) but I’m sure they taste okay. Some of them have black cherry jam in (the ones with the strange dark lines)!

cupcakes

These ones are all for me! The ones I’m taking away are already boxed up.

Have you ever been drunk?
Yes.

Complete this sentence: My favourite supposedly guilty pleasure is…
Tech stuff. Even when I don’t really need it. A couple of weeks ago I put in a home alarm system and now I’m considering an Amazon Echo thing and some WeMo Wi-Fi plugs so I control my house with voice commands 🙂

Happy New Year to everyone!

Ah. A techno junkie. I empathise. I sometimes want things I absolutely know I will never use just because they are so cool. It’s an expensive little addiction, but I can’t help it. A well designed anything … it calls my name and I cannot rest until I possess it!

My food never looks like the pictures in the cook books, but it tastes good … and that is what counts!

My watch battery just ran out and I’m thinking, should I get a new battery or look at a smart watch… somebody hold me back, it’s not like I’m awash with money or anything!
Yeah, it’s only on cookery competitions that the food needs to look perfect 🙂

Love cupcakes with jam in them – the darker the better (the jam that is) and they have to be iced – preferably with lemon icing. My absolute favourite cake is Sponge cake with fresh cream and passionfruit icing 🙂

I just made straight icing for my first time. It’s amazing how little water it needs – I was there adding more and more icing till it was finally thick enough 🙂

My mum emailed to say they are! Of course, she’s my mum – she’s hardly likely to say they’re dreadful… 🙂

The system where your house operates on voice commands is okay as long as your house doesn’t start to talk back. Happy New Year 2017 to you. 🙂 — Suzanne

Well, that was a very short answer on the one question…

Careful not to bring in too much technology, or your home may develop AI and try to take over the world…

That’s what I’m hoping for. As long as it doesn’t decide it doesn’t need me anymore and delivers a fatal electric shock through the coffee machine.

Happy New Year! Can the house be programmed to clean itself? If so I may be interested 😉

I think you can get little robot cleaners! I bet they’re rubbish, though 😦
I ate one cupcake from the first batch to check the cooking time and it seemed to taste okay.
Happy New Year to you too 🙂

The cupcakes look good! You’re braver than I at baking. I’ve never tried making cupcakes with jam in the middle. Wishing you a happy new year, filled with all the tech your heart desires!

The jam tends to sink to the bottom. Not sure what to do about that. Tasty, though!
Happy techno New Year to you too 🙂

A voice-commanded home… What is it begins to talk back…. And you have a disagreement? Too much tech for me. I can hear arguments between me and my refrigerator already happening!!!

Hmm, I wouldn’t want it turning the heating up to 60 and baking me alive 😦

Is it possible for anyone to step into your house without an alarm going off, I wonder? I’m the opposite of a techno junkie and prefer the portcullis and drawbridge approach to security. But baking is right up my street, and your cakes look yummy. Glace icing needs little water and it can take a lot of icing sugar to thicken it up once it’s too runny – which I’m sure you’ll remember next time. Then you can move on to making buttercream… 🙂

If someone steps through the front door they’ll trigger an access sensor, a motion sensor and a camera… 🙂
I had a couple of the cakes last night and they were yummy! So far I’ve done icing sugar icing, whipped cream and mascarpone and icing sugar. Next time I won’t pop some icing sugar in a dessert bowl and then stick it under the tap.

The little cakes look lovely! I always look at the tech gadgets and go, ‘ooh, that’s cool,’ and then think, ‘but do I really need it…?’ As the answer is generally, ‘no,’ I have very little by way of gadgetry! Great answers, Ali. 🙂
