Sharing My World 2017 Week 22

Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World series.

share-your-world2

What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?
Can anyone guess? That’s right. Go to Middle Zealand to see the Hobbits. There’s lots to see there too, with the two main islands and whatnot. I’d just need to be sure not to wander too close to Mordor while I’m there. It’s a 25 hour flight, thought, ‘cos it’s like a hundred thousand miles away or something.

How often do you get a haircut?
I get my hair cut every 4 weeks. Otherwise it kind of “fluffs out” from my head. It also tickles my ears 🙂

In regards to puzzle what’s your choice: jigsaw, crossword, word search or numeric puzzles?
Jigsaw, I think, followed by word search. I can’t do crosswords because I don’t know anything, and numeric puzzles make me feel ill 😦

How many cities have you lived in? You can share the number of physical residences and/or the number of cities.
If we’re talking actual “cities”, three I think. There is a handy list of cities I can refer to in the UK, fortunately, ranging from the biggies like Birmingham down to the tiniest like London. Towns are “promoted” to cities via royal charter. I don’t know what makes a city a city in the other countries I’ve lived in.

Guildford (Surrey) is a town. I’ll call Cobh (Ireland) a town as well. Welwyn Garden City (Hertfordshire) is actually a town, though it seems to be masquerading as a city. Nice try, Welwyn Garden City. Redruth (Cornwall) is a town.

Truro (Cornwall) is a city and so is Cork (Ireland) probably. I’ll call Stuttgart (Germany) a city.

Liss (Hampshire) is a village I suppose, as are Grampound Road and Carnon Downs (both Cornwall).

So that’s three cities, four towns and three villages. I think that’s all of them 🙂

Interesting answers as always Ali! Your hair must be quite naughty… it tickles your ears😀

You could let it grow out enough to get a mohawk. That would be guaranteed not to tickle your ears…

And it’d make me look like a hard-ass, too.

I used to like jigsaw puzzles but haven’t done one in years. New Zealand is a nice place but like you say, it’s too far away. Good answers, Ali. 🙂 — Suzanne

Me neither. Well, I did do a jigsaw a few months ago with my godson’s 6 year old sister but it wasn’t exactly challenging 🙂

Wow, you’ve lived a lot of places, Ali! I get confused with town/village over here in America and doubly so about regions/towns/boroughs in/around Great Britain. New Zealand looks and sounds great, but, like you, I’m so darn far away—and the way some airlines are performing these days (even back in the day, they tried to separate us from our then 2-year-old child; duh!), I’m not inclined to try.

It does get complicated around London. Many places which are actually in counties surrounding London are counted as London boroughs for administrative purposes. I don’t even know if London is a “town” or a “conurbation” any more. And it’s even weirder in that it has a tiny “city” in the middle 🙂

I’m with you on the airlines. It used to be that I didn’t like flying because of all the waiting in the airport but now the airlines seem to be selling 200 seats on a 150 seat plane and hoping for the best…

Yes, that’s what I hear and read, too. They’re massively overbooking flights. Ugh!

I agree with the Squirrel. You would look outstanding with a mohawk. And parts of it should be purple. Good idea about visiting the land of the hobbits!

With a mohawk like that I might get mistaken for an Urak-hai over in Hobbit land 🙂

New York, Jerusalem, Boston, and baby Uxbridge. So there are three cities, though Jerusalem was more like an oversized town back then and Uxbridge just makes it into “town.” I’m not even counting suburbs. Too complicated. Are they towns? Villages? Or just developers units?

That’s the same problem around London. Some are London boroughs, though in another county, very confusing.

I’d love to go to New Zealand, too. I had a scholarship for an educational deal out of high school to go to Australia for two weeks, but didn’t take it because of the dreadful flight!

A journey like that is pretty off-putting, especially if it’s only for two weeks. Where’s our teleporters? What are the scientists up to all day?

With all that living in different places in the UK/ Germany, it’s about time you got on a plane and went to Middle Zealand. I’ve got friends there I’ve promised to visit before I die, but they keep coming back to the UK to visit family and letting me off.
Have you ever let your hair grow beyond the tickly-ear stage?

Go to Middle Zealand! See the Hobbits!
Years ago my hair used to get quite long and messy, But my barber went out on her own and started an appointments system so now I’m all organised and whatnot. I can no longer make a last-minute decision not to bother.

You’ve lived in quite a few towns/cities! I almost ended up working in Guildford, but didn’t accept the job offer. Visited Cork and Truro and liked both places. Still haven’t been to Stuttgart. Did you travel around Germany while you lived there?

I did a little bit of travelling. I saw Munich, the Black Forest, went into Switzerland, France and it was German reunification year while I was there so we drive into ex-East Germany on reunification day which was quite an experience. We went to a restaurant where everybody looked at us suspiciously (probably never seen foreigners before apart from Russians) and the roads which were not marked as “main” roads were basically mud tracks. The woman who was driving us stopped and very carefully reversed back over the potholes to the “proper” road 🙂

You seem to have moved about a lot more than I have – and here was me, thinking you hardly ever moved out of Cornwall! I’d love to visit New Zealand, too. I’ve been to Australia but it’s New Zealand that’s pulling me right now. It must be the thought of meeting a few Hobbits. 🙂
