Sharing My World 2017 Week 23

Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World.

What is the most famous landmark or building you have ever seen?
I guess it would be some of the London landmarks. The tower with Big Ben in, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and the like. It was many years ago, though, pre-camera phones and digital cameras and I don’t have any photos.

Do you like long vacation or lots of mini-vacations?
I prefer little holidays here and there. I have two weeks off coming up but I’ll just take one day as it comes and have little days out.

What is your favourite National or State Park?
We don’t really have state parks (not least because we don’t have states). We do have areas owned by English Heritage (a charity), The National Trust/The National Trust of Scotland (a charity) and The Forestry Commission (which would be the closest to America’s “National Parks” I guess).

Area-wise, North Wales, North and especially North-East Scotland and Cumbria are lovely. Also Dartmoor in Devon and, of course, Cornwall 🙂

Here’s a photo I took a couple of years ago in Dartmoor.

What is your fantasy vacation?
Have I mentioned before visiting the Hobbits in New Zealand? And there’s lots more to see there too!

Those are some beautiful places in the northern UK, Ali. If you wanted to go visit the Hobbits you might have to take two vacations together. 🙂 — Suzanne

Yes, it’s a long way, especially if I have to go to Middle Earth as well 🙂

Make sure you bring the camera with you when you do visit New Zealand. I want to see a selfie with a Hobbit…

I could do Hobbits too. Except I won’t go near an airport or airplane these days. It’s a long swim, I’m afraid … so we’ll need the world to calm down, first.

Same here. It’s a shame it’s so far away.

I suppose most of the UK’s most famous landmarks are in London, as it’s one of the most ‘visited’ cities in the world. (You’ve made me want to visit the place now!) I can’t argue with you about the beauty of Wales, Scotland and the Lake District – or Cornwall! All have some stunning scenery. Hobbit Land would be great to visit, too, of course. Gorgeous photos, by the way. 🙂

It’s hard to think of any actual landmarks outside of the big cities. I’m glad you liked the photos!

I also prefer mini-breaks. I miss living in the UK, which is so close to continental Europe, and only a few hours away from North Africa! Travelled around the UK quite a bit as well (made good use of our English Heritage membership).

Yes, it’s quite close to quite a few countries. It sounds like you’ve probably seen more of the UK than me 🙂

Maybe the Hobbits might travel to see you? Is there a scale of most famous landmarks/ buildings? I imagine the anwers will be debated as to what’s famous enough to be included. Mini vs long break – either would do me right now 🙂
