Pegman – It’s Good to be Home

Here is my little story for What Pegman Saw. This week the little Pegman is wandering around Athens, Greece.

“My home, my beautiful home! Ruined!“ Athena looked around. She was not happy.

“Hey, kiddo,” came a familiar voice. “Long time.”

“Daddy!” Athena squealed. “I was taking a nap. What’s happening? Why are you dressed like that?”

“I have a job!” explained Zeus. “Electrician. Suited to it, I thought. The humans neither need nor want us any longer. So we’re making do.”

“But what of the others? Poseidon?”

“Fisherman.”

“Hephaestus?”

“Blacksmith.”

“Surely not Uncle Hades too?”

“He’s had various jobs. Lawyer. Politician. Reality Show producer. He’s decided it’s much more fun tormenting humans while they’re still alive.”

“Oh dear. Maybe if I’d got up when I first woke I could have stopped this, but I dropped off again. I wanted one more millennium in bed. What should I do?”

“’Strategic warfare’ is one of yours, yes?”

“Surely by now humans have abolished war?”

“Ha! Prepare to be very busy, my girl.”

This probably explains everything. ALMOST everything. What is Loki doing? He probably invented social media.

Probably. Maybe if we get a Pegman in Norway we’ll find out!

The part about Uncle Hades made me chuckle.
Unfortunately, humans manage to wage war without any outside help. *sigh*

We do. But now with Athena at the helm we’ll learn how to do it “right”.

I always wonder what the gods think of humans! Uncle Hades is well-suited to his new professions! Great story! 😀

I am never disappointed at your storytelling. Still chuckling at Hades’ various jobs. But I’d like the god of peace to show up!

It’s funny how, out of all the ancient godly pantheons, I can’t name a single “god of peace”…
I’m glad you liked it 🙂

Eirene was a Greek goddess of peace. Here is the link to the Wikipedia entry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eirene_(goddess)

Cool, thanks! And she was big in Athens as well by the looks of it.

Yes, she absolutely was big in Athens. Last time I was visiting Greece I went to see a play by Aristophanes which dealt with the kidnapping and imprisonment of Eirene. The play hinged on the way some powerful Athenians didn’t want her rescued because they were making too much money out of war. The play has a happy ending I’m glad to say!

Sounds good. And very true to life, some people make a fortune out of war 😦

That’s brilliant, Ali. Had me chuckling. I love the sentence ‘ “Daddy!” Athena squealed.’ The thought of Athena squealing is just too hilarious for words!
Your last two lines are very telling.

I’m sure Athena would look a lot better at press briefings than all of those old, tired looking five star generals…
