Sharing My World 2018 Week 8
Here is my post for Cee’s Share Your World.
How do you like your eggs?
Any old way! Not raw, though. I often fry them when I have sausages and bacon. I make omelettes sometimes. And if the eggs are on the verge of their use by date, I pop them in water and if they still sink I hard boil them. I don’t know of that extends their “run time” but it couldn’t hurt 🙂
Have you ever met anyone famous?
Not really. At one of my graduations, I think the PhD one, I kind of met (and possibly shook hands with) HRH The Duke of Kent, as he is my old university’s Chancellor.
What was the first thing you bought with your own money?
It was a cassette tape of the album “Super Trouper” by Abba. I still listen to the album but it’s a digital version now.
What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.
I appreciated that we’re getting there at work during our ultra-busy time.

Yeah can’t beat ABBA! Even the slightest mention and their songs get stuck in my head 😊

All these years on and I still listen to them at least once a week. Now that’s staying power 🙂

For the record, I was trying to be funny. I await Drali’s answer myself…

It means they’ve gone off (I guess the egg inside is making way for noxious air or gas). If they stand up on end, they’re on their way out – eat them now!
“Use by” dates are like the use by dates on all food (in my opinion). Check it yourself – if it smells okay and tastes okay then it’s okay.

I am SOOOOO glad I’m retired. This used to be super busy time for us, too. For some reason, all the major deadlines were in March. Then you got the stuff back and had to make it REALLY work … by April.

In the UK the financial year ends at the beginning of April too so that just makes things worse 😦

Do you like fried eggs when you’re out? This was a conversation I had last weekend as a friend and we can’t stand it when an egg is fried too hot and fast and you get crispy white. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one floating/ sinking eggs to check their freshness. I can’t imagine how many eggs get chucked because of sell-by dates.
:+1: Super trouper.
I hope work continues to go smoothly and you don’t get any snow this week to slow you down 🙂

I hate it when the white’s all crispy! I always fry my eggs from a cold pan and quite slowly until they’re just perfect 🙂
I always assumed everyone did the egg floating thing. I’ve eaten eggs days and days after the use by with no ill effects and perfect taste.
Yay for Super Trouper 🙂
We have an amber warning for snow but I doubt it’ll be much down here 🙂

I hate to say I think egg floating is an age thing… the young (under 35) apparently don’t know about it. And I’m glad to have found another crispy-white-hater. It was suggested I was just being fussy! 😉

That’s a lot of chucked eggs then 😦
Fussy, indeed! A good fried egg does not have crispy edge bits.

Abba was always a favourite in our house, too – amazing sound. As for eggs, I like them any way at all and the more often, the better. (Chocolate ones aren’t bad, either – but not so good on toast.) 😀
