Sharing My Christmassy World 23-12-2018

Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.

What traditional Christmas decoration is actually a parasitic plant?
Tinsel. It eats away at your very soul even as it beautifies your tree.

No, that doesn’t sound right. Mistletoe, then.

Name something about this holiday season (whatever version you may celebrate) that most people like, but you dislike?
Mince pies. They’re full of mincemeat. I like mince. I like meat. Mincemeat is neither of those things. Mince pies promise both but don’t deliver. Damn you, stupid lying Christmas snacks.

What’s your favourite – or least favourite – song sung traditionally at this time of year?
On the radio and in supermarkets you can’t escape Jona Lewie’s “Stop the Cavalry”, from December 1980. It’s not Christmas until Jona Lewie fires up. It’s a real traditional Christmas song, all about being stuck in the trenches during the war and not being able to get home for Christmas.

Actually – it’s not really a Christmas song at all, is it. Hey hum.

In the song “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,” what “incriminating” evidence was found on Grandma’s back?
I’m vaguely aware of the song, I think it’s an American favourite. Given the title, I’m going to go with reindeer hoof prints.

Finally: What would you like to share with the world, if time or cost were no object?
I would like to share my plan for the end of violence. Everyone would get a games console and would shoot each other online instead. And if people got bored and decided to try some real-world violence, they would find that months of sitting on the couch eating snacks and playing games had eroded their health to the point that they were no longer capable of hurting anybody.

I have written to the UN but have sadly received no response.

Merry Christmas, everybody 🙂

My #16 Novelty Song of All Time, and you’re only “vaguely aware” of it. Hmph! Well, you’re just not going to pass the quiz I have coming up on it, are you? Unless Alexa helps you cheat, and I have no doubt she’d do that…

If you hadn’t featured it recently I probably wouldn’t really know it at all – it’s never played over here. We don’t like to think about our grandmas getting run over by reindeer…

Merry Christmas to you, too! You are correct about #1…in fact I’ve heard tell you can find tinsel in JUNE sometimes, because it craftily hid itself behind the sofa. Heh. Thanks for Sharing Your Merry World (even though that song you shared isn’t all that merry, is it)? I hope he/she got home and all. Nobody should be ‘on the front’ on Christmas Day.

The song doesn’t make it clear but I fear he did not, in fact, get home 😦 Jona Lewie has said that it’s a protest song, not a Christmas song. In the same way that Die Hard is “not a Christmas movie” (it so is – number 6 in the UK in fact!). But since everywhere plays it all Christmas it makes him a ton of money 🙂
      Merry Christmas!

I hope so. I could do with a new UN-supplied console 🙂 Merry Christmas!

You really should not put your letters up the chimney, it really does not work like that. That was just a story that your Mum and Dad made up!

But… but… I paid extra when house-hunting to get one with a chimney. Easier Santa access…

For all the good putting them up the chimney will do you, you may as well put them up……….NOOOOOOO, don’t do that!!!!!!!

Merry Christmas to you too! Now I know why I am so quiet in January. Cannot fight as my health is utterly destroyed by those mince pies… The UN should feed them to the gamers, as per your proposition.

I like your anti-violence solution. It would do terrible things to our blood pressure and everything else, but it might be worth it.

I’ve never heard Grandma & the Reindeer; like you, I’m only vaguely aware of it. Never hers “Stop the Calvary.” In our stores we hear a lot of winter-ish songs like “Sleigh Ride Together” and “Walking in a Winter Wonderland,” with the hyped-up “Jingle Bell Rock.” Occasional hymns.
If people got used to destroying each other online, wouldn’t they’d get desensitized to killing and become indifferent to violent crimes? Maybe the jury’s still out on that?

Whoops. Brain malfunction. Supposed to be “Never heard…”
Anyway, have a good Christmas season, dreaming up lots of things to write in the coming year. (Maybe if we made everybody write a book it would bring an end to violence?)

We’ve had Christmas music in the office recently. I even asked Alexa for some Christmas music before work this morning!
In my opinion, once fully grown up only psychopaths can’t tell the difference between video games and real horrific violence 😦
