Well, less a story, more a journey through time itself!

1950: Oh, I say Ethel, isn’t it wonderful, the modern world today, just look at these wonderful photographs. Just think, our memories somehow inscribed on paper…
2050: What the hell’s all this? How did those 1950s people get their photos off their phones and onto this, what’s it called again? Paypur? Not sure how I’d get all mine on there. Maybe if I deleted all the photos of my lunch…
2150: Hang on, I’ll get you those photos in a sec, my brain comm’s lost connection to the database…
2250: Meep… system error… photo album corrupted… reboot brain immediately… meep…

I don’t have to worry, I backed them all up onto wire recorder, then acetate, then tape reel, then 5.25 floppies, then 3.5 floppies, then memory stick, external HDD. They now reside in the cloud, wherever that is!

Oh no! The cloud is all a big scam. Your photos all just reached the end of a wire and then sprayed out over a field somewhere…

A lot of photos taken today are not worth printing out, and no great loss to lose those shots of your lunches!

Maybe one in every 100 photos people take could be worthy of printing. I’m going to chose “Wednesday – pizza and chips” from my collection!

I love “real” photos. It’s a bit like a “real” book compared to an e-Book 😀

Those photos are obvious fakes! You can clearly see their arm not extending outwards holding the phone to take the picture…

This is exactly why I enjoy the real printed-out photos — no chance that a computer glitch will erase them all! Of course, a fire would do the same to physical photos, so there’s no winning here, I suppose…

Dear Ali,
Nice progression. I’m not sure the last one is all that far away. So when generations to come access our photos they’ll certainly have a good idea of what we all ate, won’t they? 😉 good one.

Your tale took me back to the ’60s when I had a darkroom where I printed my own pictures. That’s not all I got up to in my darkroom but that’s another story!

A really concise update Ali. Very topical I think, about what will happen to the photos of our lunch and the dog sleeping. I don’t want photos stored in my brain !

Funny, Ali. I’m kind of glad I won’t be around in 2050 let alone 2250. I have read where our heads will one day be wired. No thanks. Heads will probably be shaved, wired, and wigs put on. I’ve always wondered where that cloud was where our stuff goes. It’s probably at the top of some tower that will be washed away when the shores flood. Oh, well. 😀 — Suzanne

Being “offline” the last several weeks, I can appreciate your story this week … sort of … I guess … but I did miss reading your stories. They’re always entertaining. I love the “through the years” approach. Makes you wonder … would I want something implanted in my brain?

I wouldn’t. Though they’re currently researching some (large) brain implants which are enabling a guy whose own limbs no longer work to control an exoskeleton (in the lab) and move around. So there will be medical uses.
