Sharing My World 18-11-2019

Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.

Can we ever experience anything objectively? Why or why not?
Definitely. I object to a bunch of stuff.

Only kidding. I would say no. Even when we try, subconsciously our preconceived ideas will always unintentionally add bias. As we recently learned, even AIs can be biased.

Do humans have a soul? Do animals have a soul?
That depends on your idea of a “soul”. Is it a sense of self, an ability for empathy, a life force? If so, “yes” to both. Though there have been some humans throughout history who didn’t seem to have one.

Why are people told to respect the dead?
Because they can’t respond to any insults, I suppose. Though there are some people I don’t respect regardless of whether they’re dead or not.

Without using the names of specific people, discuss “the ideal” President or other world leader.
Can there be an “ideal” world leader? In order to make things work, more and more compromises need to be made. I’m sure most politicians would admit to themselves that many of their lofty ideals fell by the wayside as they proceeded through their careers.

I guess the main thing is to make sure they’re in it for the people, and they leave their ego at the door. Because their entire reason for existing is now to serve.

A former co-worker, who I adore recently lost her sister, who I did not adore..at all! I could say more, but what’s the point? May she rest in peace. :/

And here I thought people got into politics so that the people can serve them. What a racket! Bring back the monarchy!

We have one who’s causing a bit of embarrassment at the moment. You can have him!

You describe the ideal politician/world leader. They are really getting hard to find these days. Good answers, Ali. 🙂 — Suzanne

Thank you for Sharing Your World, Alistair. Another blogger, just this morning, defined the respect for the dead idea in an excellent way – they have died and are to be forgiven. And yeah, I realize some people don’t deserve respect, dead or alive. Good call!

Just as an example – Hitler. I’m not respecting or forgiving him, I don’t care how dead he is 🙂

It’s the endless compromises pols need to make. You can’t get anything done if you don’t make deals. You may have never intended to compromise, but you will — if you want to accomplish anything. So yeah, the important thing is that whatever you are doing, it isn’t to line your pockets with the nation’s money.
