Excerpt from Little Chipping Police official Twitter account

09:50 Eagle-eyed Sergeant Nutbones spots online image – arrow pointing wrong way on roundabout, well done Sarge! #verydangerousroundabout #niceonesarge

10:27 Arrest warrant issued for city planner Jean-Pierre Duchamp #verydangerousroundabout #werecomingforyou

13:14 Duchamp located in France! International arrest warrant issued #verydangerousroundabout #fugitive

13:21 Investigation cost £50k so far but we are relentless! #verydangerousroundabout #noescapefromthelaw #gettingexpensive

15:45 Apparently roundabout is in France not in Little Chipping so arrow correct, arrest warrant cancelled #oops #ourbad #notourjurisdictionanyway

16:30 It is with heavy heart that we announce the early retirement of Sergeant Nutbones with immediate effect #verysad #stupidmoron #roundaboutgate

Ha, a wonderfully modern fable for our times. I assume this is related to Brexit in some way as well, everything is these days.

Something about going the wrong way, or round in round in circles, maybe…

There’s a vacancy for the job of Prime Minister if he’s interested. I’m sure he’d be perfect.

    HAHAHA! The hashtags are priceless!
Good thing the roundabout was not in Wales. Welshmen never yield 🙂

He sounds like the policeman in Dr. Martin (New Zealand series) or maybe Inspector Clouseau.

      Ha, yes, a bit bumbling!
I’ve heard of Doc Martin with Martin Clunes (which is filmed here in Cornwall!) but not a New Zealand series. I’ve not seen it though.

    EPILOGUE:

At his farewell, instead of a gold watch fellow officers gave Sargeant Nutbones a pair of bi-focals with super magnifying power. He’s delighted to say he can now read the small print on computer screens. #newbloggerinchipping 🙂

It’s amazing he made it to sergeant. I flipped the photo round, so if he’d seen that he’d still have a job!

Good job Little Chipping Police Station to have retired Sgt. Nutbones. God knows how much more he would have spent, if he was retained as part of force.

It’s a good thing the sheriff in Hog Slop, Arkansas didn’t see that same image. He’d wonder who in tarnation put an island in the middle of the road. #imnotdrivingaroundthattogettothepigglywigglyyall

I have noticed on American TV programmes that big traffic light controlled junctions seem to be more the norm. Our planners just love roundabouts…
