Sharing My World 23-12-2019

Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.

Do dogs ‘talk’ (communicate) with their own species?
Presumably. Who else are they going to talk to properly? I expect different dog species have a bit of trouble communicating, though. And dogs from different countries woof in different languages,

Have you ever had to work on Christmas Day?
No, no more than just a few bits I’ve had to check on and off, but done from home.

If someone gifts you something that you immediately loathe, do you pretend to really like it anyway or are you brutally honest about your opinion?
I would pretend to like it. No need to be nasty.

Which popular drink, found during the Christmas season most often, is called “milk punch?”
I imagine it would be eggnog, which sounds a bit gross to be honest.

How many ghosts show up during “A Christmas Carol?”
I immediately thought “three”, of course, but then I Googled it to see and there were in fact four – I had forgotten about his old business partner, Jacob Marley!

Are you all about the holly and jolly or more about remembering the alleged ‘true’ meaning of Christmas?
I’m more about the ‘true’ meaning of Christmas.

Presents.

Please share a memory or thought about the holiday season if you’d like, whatever kind of celebration you may observe.
Christmas always used to be about Gran coming down to visit from Scotland for a couple of weeks. We had things we always used to do, like going to a little place nearby and buying satsumas. She’s been gone a good while now, twenty years I think.

I remember that where I used to work, a call center that operated 24/7, they asked if anyone would volunteer to come in on Thanksgiving and not a single soul volunteered. I thought that sent a really strong message. Good answers, Ali. —- Suzanne

I enjoyed your post and responses. I’m with you about the gift: no sense being nasty. There are ways around saying, “I just love this!” Even “Thank you so much for remembering me with a gift. I’ll think of you every time I see it,!” would work.

And as long as you remember to bring it out of storage whenever they visit, it’s all good 🙂

A lovely memory about your Gran 🙂
I’m the same with gifts. The fact that the other person thought enough to give is enough for me.

Thanks Alistair for Sharing Your Holiday World! Your gran sounds lovely, and the holidays can be rather bittersweet once they are gone. I like your ‘true’ meaning…heh heh. Who doesn’t love a prezzie? 😀

Please post a picture of the fake joyous face you make when you open the gift I sent you this year. Hint: It’s a box of possums!

Oh crap, I just remembered I forgot to poke holes in the box!

The older I get, the less official holidays mean. Other time, though, take on MORE meaning because they are times spent with friends. We need that!

Yes, away from the chaos of official holidays when people get time to spend with each other properly.
