Sharing My World 07-12-2020

Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.

Do you enjoy skiing or ice skating or if it’s warm where you are, hiking or enjoying outdoor sports?
I’ve never been skiing or ice skating. I’m sure I’d end up with a number of broken bones, and as a kid there was nowhere to do either without taking a holiday anyway. Nowadays, there’s a skating rink created over Christmas (not this year obviously), and I think there’s a dry ski slope within 100 miles or so.

It’s not too cold here – anywhere between 2 and 11 degrees. Walking rather than “hiking” is my thing, and there’s not much sports going on this year with The Covid.

Do you give to charities or homeless that you might encounter, during this time of year, more than you do otherwise?
I give via direct debit. I don’t go into town much (not at all since March) so I don’t encounter much by way of charities in the street. I don’t think that’s happening this year anyway.

What is the most enjoyable activity you engage in during December? Is it a tradition for you and your family?
There’s always my traditional Christmas Eve Die Hard and present wrapping marathon. And of course, Christmas Day with Mum and Dad, which will be different this year but still going ahead.

What changes will C-19 bring to your festive celebrations this year?
Slightly reduced I think. And I’ll likely be wearing a mask (except while eating) as I always do when visiting my parents, though my parents are getting their first vaccine jab this coming week so they’ll be somewhat protected.

    Fingers crossed that vaccine works.

You’re fortunate to already be getting the vaccine. I don’t know when we’ll be getting it in India, or what kind. —- Suzanne

I doubt I’ll get this one. I’m not old enough and I’m living in one of the three places in England with the lowest restrictions, so I’m not high priority. My parents are over 80 though so they’re near the top of the list.

I’ve never been skiing or ice skating either. I’ll leave that to the professionals. Great news for your parents getting the vaccine!

Thanks Alistair for Sharing Your World! I hope that vaccine works! I live in a place that is one of the ski ‘hot’ spots (yeah that was a bit ironic).. and I suspect this year due to Covid and the obvious climate change, that they aren’t doing a brisk business. Living here as I do, I’ve still never been either skating (ice) nor skiing. Fuggitabout snow boarding. I agree there’d be broken something in my future were I silly enough to attempt it now, and when I was younger and more limber, I still didn’t like the cold. Deliberating making oneself more cold seemed dim witted. Stay safe during your celebrations, whatever they are!

There’s no way I’d stay upright. Something would definitely snap 😦 I’ve never broken a bone (little toes possibly excepted) and I’m not about to start now.

We have been reducing Christmas mania for quite a while now. We have exactly enough to make it feel like a holiday without feeling like we’ve created a massive financial strain with a lot of additional work. Everyone will put UP the lights, but no one is willing to help take them down. one year, we had them up until past Easter when I refused to cook another meal until the “kids” (all of whom were over 40, not counting the Grandie) to take down the tree. It was getting embarrassing.

I’m always pretty minimal. My parents are only having the one little tree this year too. I’m not thrilled about having to take them down either…

Sorry about the duplication. It’s a WP thing.

Sometimes the double-click protection doesn’t work. Or it looks like nothing happened but it actually has and you try again…

The latter. It appeared nothing had happened, so I tried again, then it rejected it saying it was a duplication, but the duplicate didn’t appear until a few minute later. It’s getting weird on WordPress.

Between 2 and 11 is definitely considered cold! Oh, wait…. you mean….. nevermind!

We’re very blessed here in Oz. Most restrictions have been lifted, but I still wear a mask when I go shopping. I think I’ll be doing that for some time to come. We’re having a family Christmas lunch – probably 14 people. Nine grandkids, so it will be lots of fun. No vaccine here yet, and probably won’t be untill at least March. The PTB don’t want to risk a vaccine that hasn’t been fully tested with minimal risks.

Nice that you’re pretty much back to normal for Christmas. Enjoy 🙂
