FF – And Thus, The Earth Burned

Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Dale Rogerson.

The Visitors had arrived almost a year ago. They had brought much – advanced medical care, transport technology and more.

In return, the Earth offered sand, a rare commodity on the Visitors’ home planet.

Hank and Jed were there when the war started. Some might say they started it.

The concert was in full swing when beams of light struck down. In an instant, every musician was blown into a red mist.

It was actually quite pretty.

“Darn it, Jed! Them ‘ayliuns’ don’t like Country ‘n Western!”

“They don’t, Hank!”

“Heathens! Kill ‘em! Kill ‘em all!”

And thus, the Earth burned.

Without sand, we’d have no cement. Or glass. The war was inevitable

Somebody always finds something to fight over. But then, what kind of mess would we be in if “they” took over? Country music fans are such firebrands. 😉

Were Jed and Hank (perfect names for this story) wearing red hats?

Don’t worry, as long as DJ Scratchy doesn’t actually play any of it, I’m sure it’s safe…

Country & Western is certainly the ‘marmite’ of the music world. I could see it starting an intergalactic war.

    Dear Ali,

C&W isn’t my favorite either but couldn’t they just get up and walk out?

      Dear Rochelle,
They didn’t want to risk it getting up and following them out, perhaps. They’re new here!

For the sake of the earth, ban Country and Western now – apart from Dolly Parton, I’d miss her big … voice!

Good story Ali – I like the way it hints at all sorts of things – a trade war over sand, Aliens who bring superior medical knowledge AND hate Country & Western music, and ends with some sort of extinction. Alot there.

All to do with a different taste in music… but then again, all wars start with a difference of opinion. At least the musicians being blown into a red mist offered a pretty spectacle! 🙂
