FF – Lawyers Tales – Death in the Company

Here is my little story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Ted Strutz.

“Mail call!”

“Great. Let’s see… contracts for the BlimCo merger, transcripts from the Murphy hearing, cremated remains, documents for signing…”

“Wait, what?”

“Murphy hearing.”

“No, the other thing.”

“Cremated remains?”

“Yep.”

“That’ll be Barry. Remember? He refused to move an inch on the Scarlioni property deal so they shot him.”

“Oh yeah.”

“Comes at a good time, actually.”

“How so?”

“It’s started snowing outside. We need something to grit the path.”

“You can’t do that!”

“It’ll be the most useful he’s been since joining the company.”

“True. Go on, then.”

Scatter scatter clink

“Huh. They left the bullet in.”

“Cool.”

Very practical, our heroes. Shouldn’t think they’ll even keep the bullet “in memoriam.”

No, they’ll find some use for it, I’m sure.

So when my car got stuck in the driveway yesterday, all I needed to do was murder a neighbor, have the body burned, and the ashes spread under the tires. Damn, why didn’t I think of that?

Poor Barry. There he went, bullet and all. Hilarious unless it happens to me. I reserved my place in the cemetery so they better deposit me there or I’ll come back and haunt them. —- Suzanne

He no doubt didn’t expect to get shot right then and there but you never know. You should always be prepared for any eventuality. 🙂

“The most useful thing since joining the company” … I felt I had worked with him? (Actually maybe, several of ‘him’?)

Loved the leaving the bullet in to jar. Mementos are great to have!!!

It seems that Barry has found a mission…in…um…death. Subtle and funny.

Oh, that is just wrong in so many ways! Yuck! Wouldn’t be gritty enough I’d think… and would probably melt on contact, too, leaving a clinging mud that will never wash out. UGH!
