Sharing My World 24-05-2021

Here is my post for Melanie’s Share Your World.

What are you most proud of in the last year?
I felt proud of making the decision to keep my current car due to low mileage rather than swapping for a new one (I use PCP finance so it’s generally a straight swap with a smallish deposit).

I felt less proud when the car dealership phoned me up about getting a new car and I immediately caved 😮

If you see a puddle on the ground, do you walk around it or give in to the child within and splash about?
Confucius say “he who jump in puddles didn’t have to spend all day making money to pay for shoes”.

Do you feel free? Why or why not?
Yep, I’m totally free. Form an orderly queue, ladies, no charge!

What life skills are rarely taught but are extremely useful?
I don’t know what’s taught these days. I don’t remember being taught any life skills whatsoever back in the 70s/80s, apart from maths perhaps.

A bit more “how to budget and manage your money” and a bit less “Henry the Eighth” and “types of glacier” might have been useful.

I’m totally with you on the “A bit more “how to budget and manage your money” and a bit less “Henry the Eighth” and “types of glacier” might have been useful.” In the 60’s I went to an all girl school and we were taught how to cook “invalid cooking” – crumbed brains, liver, kidneys. It’s something I’ve always been able to use in my adult life – like never. We also learnt (read they tried to teach us) Algebra, logarithms and some other weird mathematical stuff 🤣

“Crumbed brains”? Holy moly. They didn’t catch on!
I find algebra quite useful, but logarithms? I remember looking those up in a special book at school. I’ve needed logarithms over the years, but thank goodness for computers!

I have never once used algebra or needed to find the square root of things. I was more interested in Henry VIII and glaciers (which is probably why my budget is always a mess). What new car did you get? Joining the cue after I jump into a puddle. 🙂

It’ll be the same car as I have now (Fiesta ST3). It’ll be a few months yet, I’ll have to wait for them to build it 🙂

I was already getting letters and emails from my dealer trying to get me to trade in for a new car when mine hit three years old earlier this year. Sorry, folks. See you sometime in the 2030’s…

You’re not keeping this one as long as the last one, then…

Thank you Alistair for Sharing Your World! There’s something about the allure of a new car, I think they put some kind of drug in the ‘new car smell’, one that renders the smeller gullible to suggestion. 😉 I have been amazed at the number of people who were worried about their shoes and that puddle. Who wears shoes (or socks) to jump/splash in a rain puddle? Confucius might also have said “Wise is the man who thinks like a duck about puddles” or something deep like that. I’m sure the line for the free you would wind around several city blocks, queue forms to the right… LOL Have a great week!

I have to be careful when advertising myself in case there’s a riot and I end up in protective custody… 😉

I find it difficult to resist the lure of a new car!

Yeah. Especially if it’s hardly costing me anything and I get another three years’ manufacturers warranty and no MOTs required!
