Sharing My World 30-09-2024
Here is my post for Share Your World, hosted by Di.
Did your parental home have a ‘parlour’ or front room reserved only for when you had visitors?
No! I always feel houses like that are a bit “creepy”. Imagine being the honoured guest forced to sit in a seldom-used special room. You’re bound to be so nervous you’ll drop crumbs and spill your tea.
Did you ever go to stay with relatives during the school holidays?
Every summer holidays we stayed with Gran in Lossiemouth in north Scotland for two weeks. Lovely memories 🙂
Did relatives (cousins, grandparents) come to stay with your family in the holidays?
Every Christmas Gran (the afore-mentioned Scottish granny) came to stay with us.
What do you remember from the 1960s.
Nothing. I don’t remember a single second of the two and a half months I lived in the 60s.
Alternative question for readers who were born later than I was (1956) – What decade do you remember the most about?
The last decade, as memories fade. My most fondly-remembered decade was the 70s I guess as I was a kid and I’m looking at it through rose-tinted spectacles. All I remember are sunny summer holidays and no responsibilities.

We had a front room! People were born there, died there, assembled for parties there, were allowed a little privacy when first “walking out”. When we eventually got a TV, when I was 14, that is where the TV lived!

We only had the one general-use front room, that’s where our black and white Baird Radio Rentals TV lived!

To say nothing of how many people end up murdered in the parlor in those mystery stories… which is why they are seldom used.

Nowhere to sit, what with all the bodies strewn around.

We had that “reserved for visitors room”. Sometimes, when my parents were out, I would take a walk around it and then sit on the sofa. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your world again this week.
Ha, I know what you mean about sitting in special rooms. I had several friends who, although didn’t have a special room, their homes were so ‘perfect’, I would perch on the edge of the chair or settee rather than crinkle a cushion, and always declined tea or biscuits in case I spilt it or dropped a crumb!

It’s terrifying. I prefer visiting messy houses where no-one will notice (or care) if I spill something.

We have a dog, so there is fur everywhere even though we hoover twice a day. We always warn people not to wear their best clothes, but we don’t get many visitors other than the occasional neighbour.

I don’t get many visitors either which is fortunate given all the dust everywhere!

We had a ‘Sunday’room, and it only was used when visitors and family came to visit. Granny never liked that room, it was to clean and to tidy🙈Thank cat we don’t have that here, we can go wherever we want to in the house when the doors are open😸😸Double Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend, Draliman🐾😽💞

I can only imagine what you little kitties would do to a room like that 🙂

I remember the 80’s. That is when I was a kid. It was a wonderful time and decade!

The 80s started with me at the end of junior school and ended with me at university, so it covered quite a lot for me!
