Here is my story for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by Rochelle. This week’s photo was contributed by Dale Rogerson.

Beth stroked the rose petals. She had snagged the flower from Jake’s funeral. A bit of a risk – Jake’s widow, Margie, might have seen her, but Jake had loved roses.

Such a shame – “accidental shooting”. Wrong place, wrong time.

It had become obvious, over the past few months, that Jake was never going to leave Margie. Beth had got this lovely flat out of him, though.

Surely, if she wanted the flower to remember him by, she wasn’t the psychopath that quack had said she was?

Anyway, no time to dawdle. She had a pistol to dispose of.

Are you a Summer person? A Winter person? Or one of the other seasons suits you best?
Both seasons are nice. Cosy evenings in with the fire on in the winter, long days and open windows in the summer. The threat of snow and ice leads me to summer, though.

What is your favourite summer time clothing?
Nothing.

No, wait. I mean “nothing in particular”. Not “nothing at all”. Jeans, t-shirt and trainers at home and work. Plus some form of fleece at work for when they switch on the AC and I get chilly.

Do you find yourself eating out more during the summer? Or making ‘cold food’ like salads and stuff you can heat in the microwave?
I generally eat less in the summer, but usually the same sort of stuff.

Do you like watermelon? What’s your favourite summertime treat?
Yes, I like watermelon. I also like ice cream, and treated myself to one before my work summer party started a couple of weeks ago. Here it is! It’s Cornish clotted cream and strawberry, double scoop.
