Today, we have a special treat here on That Retro Blog. I persuaded my extremely talented, good friend Draliman into writing us a bit of flash fiction for our amusement.

“I say, Sophie, what absolute frolics!” smiled Cynthia. “What with the boys away for the weekend, and we girls, sisters all, in the house alone…”

“Yes, Cynthia,” said Sophie. “In the house, all alone, the servants given the night off!”

“All alone, on a dark and stormy night!” added Delilah.

“Sherry for all!” demanded Cynthia. The ladies, fine upstanding Victorian ladies of breeding, waited. No-one came.

“Of course!” laughed Delilah. “We’re here in the house all alone! We shall have to serve ourselves!” She went to fetch the sherry.

“Oh, I say, should we?” asked Sophie. “I mean, sherry, and us in the house all alone…”

Suddenly there was a clatter at the front door.

“I say, whatever was that?”…

Drali Two Point Oh

Today’s Daily Prompt is all about cloning. Hey, I thought, they’ve cloned their prompt! So, since I haven’t written My Mondays Finish the Story yet, here’s my 2013 reply to the same prompt.

It’s like time travel or something.

Daily Prompt: Clone Wars – If you could clone yourself, how would you split up your responsibilities?

Faster. Stronger. Better.

Day minus 1: The lab is prepared. The growth solutions are ready. My DNA has been extracted, sequenced and enhanced. Tomorrow we begin the cloning process. Our goal? To produce Draliman 2.0. Faster. Stronger. Better.

Day 1: My DNA has been added to the solution. The solution has been solutificated and the electrodes have been electroned. Let life be created. Ha ha, ha ha ha, ha HA HA HA!

Day 5: My creation is maturing nicely. Although still only partially formed, I look forward to the day when he emerges. He will have the intelligence to complete my daily workload and the stamina to see it through. His enhanced memory will replace my calendar and my sat-nav. He will have the confidence and self-assurance to go where…
