Sharing My World 17-11-2025
Here is my post for Share Your World, hosted by Di.
What was the last book you read?
The last book I finished was “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir. I’m currently reading the first book of Peter F. Hamilton’s Void Trilogy.
Do you think movies are better or worse than the books they are based on?
The books often contain more, for example “The Martian” book contains scenes not in the film. I don’t think I’ve watched enough book adaptations to give an opinion one way or the other.
What is the most memorable movie soundtrack or theme to you?
For overall soundtrack, I’ve always enjoyed the soundtrack album to the Robin Williams film “Toys”.
Did you enjoy the old musicals (Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Howard Keel, Doris Day etc)
Not massively. Some are all right, but the music and singing style are a bit old-fashioned for me. Musicals I enjoy are films like Grease and Rocky Horror Picture Show, though they’re both old enough now to probably count as “old classics”!

Hmmm..might have to look for that.

It’s a fun film with great music (though it’s not a musical).

I’ve found that what stands the test of time has varied over the years. It’s particularly true of comedy, with some old classics being positively embarrassing now, and others being not at all funny to me. Having said that, I find most American humour has me lunging for the off switch!

Yes, I’m often disappointed when something from 40 years ago isn’t quite what I remembered.

The last book I read? I’d have to ask my high school teacher, if she’s still alive…

I’m guessing your house’s walls aren’t lined with bookcases then…

As a teenager I became acquainted with old musicals and dramas on tv as I used to take care of kids on the weekends when their parents went out for the evening. Opened up a whole new world! Grease and Rocky Horror were so much fun!

Saturday mornings used to show various runs of films, like all the Tarzans, all the Cary Grants etc.

Thanks for joining in and sharing your world again this week. I remember Toys, which also starred Joan Cussack as his sister. Interesting twist at the end.

I’ve seen it a few times, and have the soundtrack as well.

I’m glad to hear you’d read ‘Project Hail Mary’, & ‘The Martian’. Those are two of my favorite books and I’ve read them more than once. 🙂

I’ve only read The Martian once but have seen the film a few times. Apparently Project Hail Mary is going to be a film too!

Glad you enjoyed the book you read and I think books are always better than movies, there is always more in them, movies leave a lot out!

The Martian was a pretty long film but still didn’t manage to fit everything from the book in.

Grease is one of my old time favorite movies. I like part one and two, but part one is my favorite. 😁😁

I haven’t seen part 2 for a long time, but every so often I watch the original. I have a CD of the music too.

Granny read “What dreams may come” written by Richard Matheson in 1978 and when they made a movie out of it, with Robin Williams in the leading role, it was exactly the same as in the book, really fascinating. We love that😻Double Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead, Draliman🐾😽💞

It’s good when the book and film are the same or similar. I don’t like it when they change things too much in the film.
