How would you describe a wicked witch?
Pointy hat, pointy nose, warts, broomstick, cauldron and unfortunate victims bubbling away in the cauldron.
What would scare you most, a ghost or a headless horseman?
A ghost I think. At least with a headless horseman there’s some substance there to hit.
If you were attending a Halloween themed fancy dress party, what would you go as?
Myself. Scary stuff.
Do you have many Trick or Treat visitors on October 31st?
I had my godson (accompanied by his Mum) and another pair of kids with their Mum came along at the same time so knew they could come too. Then I had a couple of older girls a bit later. I don’t put out a plastic pumpkin though, which is the accepted signal that you’re open for business.
Mainly the kids troop round with their Mums and visit the houses of their friends from the local primary school.
I bought a whole tub of Heroes mini-chocolates, so I’m happily working my way through the rest 🙂

Growing up, did your parents take you to visit your uncles, aunts and grandparents regularly?
Just my paternal grandmother. Any other relatives we were properly in touch with lived hundreds of miles away.
If so, did you enjoy those visits or try to get out of them? If not, did you parents take you on outings (the zoo, beach etc).
As a little kiddie, I wasn’t massively happy to go! Apart from that we had lots of days out during school holidays. While Dad was working Mum often took my brother and me to various coastal villages with a little picnic.
What kind of holidays did you have with your parents?
We always visited my maternal Gran up in Scotland, every summer. That was a grand adventure!
Did you have pets of your own, or just a family pet?
We didn’t have any pets. Apart from the occasional “fun fair goldfish”.
It was a lovely day yesterday so I went for a walk along country roads and across fields.

Do you watch black and white movies?
Not recently. I watched a fair number of old Tarzan films and Cary Grant films when I was younger. They often showed them on Saturday mornings, just before lunchtime.
Did you date your brother’s/sister’s friends?
No.
Did your mother ever wear high heels?
Not that I remember. I probably wouldn’t have really noticed, though.
Can you remember the washing powder your mother used for the laundry?
I can sort of remember her using powder. It was something she could use in the sink, which is where she did the laundry. I had a washing machine long before she did.
And here’s a couple of photos I took during my walk at Cardinham Woods last week.

What do you miss most from your childhood?
More energy, lack of aches and pains and no responsibilities.
Would you like to relive parts of your childhood?
Yes, bits here and there, but most definitely not all of it!
As an adult, did you pass on any of your childhood traits to your children/nephews/nieces?
Nope. I have none of the above relations.
Were your parents strict but fair in their discipline?
Yes. I don’t remember any unfair smackings. They were all definitely warranted 😉

Did your parental home have a ‘parlour’ or front room reserved only for when you had visitors?
No! I always feel houses like that are a bit “creepy”. Imagine being the honoured guest forced to sit in a seldom-used special room. You’re bound to be so nervous you’ll drop crumbs and spill your tea.
Did you ever go to stay with relatives during the school holidays?
Every summer holidays we stayed with Gran in Lossiemouth in north Scotland for two weeks. Lovely memories 🙂
Did relatives (cousins, grandparents) come to stay with your family in the holidays?
Every Christmas Gran (the afore-mentioned Scottish granny) came to stay with us.
What do you remember from the 1960s.
Nothing. I don’t remember a single second of the two and a half months I lived in the 60s.
Alternative question for readers who were born later than I was (1956) – What decade do you remember the most about?
The last decade, as memories fade. My most fondly-remembered decade was the 70s I guess as I was a kid and I’m looking at it through rose-tinted spectacles. All I remember are sunny summer holidays and no responsibilities.

Do you prefer to sit in an armchair or curl up on a couch in the evening?
I curl up on the couch. If it’s an armchair, I curl up on that instead. I’m not bit a big fan of sitting “normally”.
What was the last book you read?
It was Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum book 10, I’m currently on book 11. After a while of reading fairly deep fantasy books, I thought I’d re-read some lighter comedy crime stuff.
What snacks do you enjoy?
Anything sweet. Also finger food like cocktail sausages and the like.
Do you prefer vegetables over fruit?
I don’t eat a whole lot of vegetables but I eat fruit every day. Bananas, grapes and satsumas as they’re available all year, then whatever is in season.

Do you believe in Love at First Sight?
No. Attraction and lust at first sight, yes.
Do you live alone or do you have a pet for company?
I live alone. I’ve had pets in the past.
How old is your pet?
Pet? Pet? What pet?
Have you had more than one pet at a time?
Me and my then-girlfriend had three cats many years ago. They were a handful and no mistake.
We had a bit of a mini-heatwave last week and I had a day off so I took a country roads walk to the neighbouring village. It has a deli and I came back loaded down with three different types of sausage, bacon, mince, cheese, and just to be healthy, plums.

Did you believe in the Tooth Fairy?
What do you mean “did”? What do you mean, “believe”?
You’ll be implying there’s no Easter Bunny next.
Does your adult life resemble how you thought it would turn out when you were younger?
Where’s the Porsche? Where’s the big plush house? Where’s the beautiful successful wife and impeccably-behaved kids? Where’s the £200k/year job?
No, it doesn’t.
Do you prefer long or short hair on women?
Either is fine, but not too short.
Do you drive?
Yes. There is a bus service in the village but it’s infrequent, ends quite early and would seriously curtail any trips anywhere.

I missed last week’s. The project we’ve been working exclusively on since January went live last Sunday and we were hard at work tweaking things the week before and then working into the evening on Sunday.
What was the last photograph you took?
It was very exciting! It was a photograph of a letter one of my pension providers sent to me by mistake, which I had to send to my work so they could deal with it. Woohoo!
Prior to that it was the duckling photo I posted in June. I can’t believe it was that long ago already 😮
When was your last field trip?
I’m not really sure what counts as a “field trip”. I’m thinking “investigative or educational trip”? We went on a few at school but I can’t remember what the last one was.
What is your favourite past time as an adult?
Video games and walking. Not at the same time.
Do people ask you for advice?
Not if they want a favourable outcome to their problem, they don’t.

Is there a particular song that makes you cry or become emotional?
Not currently that I can think of. “Don’t Speak” by “No Doubt” did after a break up many years ago.
Is there a particular song you cannot stand?
Loads. Unfortunately I am unable to compile a list as I have erased them from my memory banks.
Does any particular song remind you of someone?
No, not at all.
Do you have a favourite song?
I have lots of favourite songs, which change from time to time. “Just Tonight” by The Pretty Reckless, “Ghost Love Score” by Nightwish, “Memories” by Within Temptation, I could go on and on.
