Here is my post for Share My World, hosted by Di. Sorry I didn’t post last week, I was woken by a phone call at 0630 and spent the day with Mum. She was okay by the afternoon, some sort of bug, but I didn’t get a chance to post anything.

Can you speak a second language?
That depends on what’s meant by “speak”. I can speak a few words of “schoolboy” French and enough German to have a basic conversation, but I think “speak” is probably going a bit far to claim.

As a child, what did you find easier, climbing a rope or climbing a tree?
I don’t remember climbing many trees but I remember distinctly that I could barely get off the ground in PE class trying to climb a rope. So I’m going with “tree”.

Did you prefer maths or science at school?
That depends on what maths and what science. If the science is Physics, then that for sure. I wasn’t great at Chemistry or Biology. As for maths, well… stuff like algebra I found easy whereas stuff like statistics and geometry – no!

How would you describe your sense of humour?
That’s best left to others to determine. “Dry”, maybe.

Do you exercise regularly?
No, not as much as I should. I did go for a nice walk around the local fields yesterday.

Have you ever belonged to/visited a gym?
Ha no.

When it comes to diet, what is your greatest weakness?
Sweet treats just before bed. The worst thing to eat, the worst time to eat it.

Do you know your waist size?
No. I had to work it out a year or so ago for health insurance. That’s a real eye-opener. There’s a particular place you measure it and it’s way above where your trousers sit (when you’re me anyway). So it was my jeans waist size plus about 15 inches 😮

Do you celebrate your birthday or is it just another day?
Me and my brother go over to Mum’s and have fish and chips. That’s it, really.

Did you have birthday parties as a child?
Yes, We sometimes went to the park with school friends to play football and then back home for birthday tea.

Were there any special ‘traditions’ for the birthday person in your household?
Not that I recall.

What was the worst birthday you had?
2022 – it was the day we lost Dad. No birthday celebration that year as you can imagine. And I don’t celebrate my birthday on my actual birthday any more.

Have you ever danced round a maypole?
Nope. I’ve seen Morris Dancers once “live” but never Maypole dancing.

Does the month of May hold any specific memories or events for you?
No. May is sort of an in-between month in my mind. I can’t think of anything much ever happening in May.

Does your country celebrate a May Day holiday?
Yes – the first and last Mondays of the month. They’ve had various names through the years but I believe they’re currently known as “Early May Bank Holiday” and “Late May Bank Holiday”. A lot of thought went into that.

Have you booked a vacation for this year?
Yes, a couple of days in Scotland next month.

What season are you in where you live, and what time is it?
It’s Spring here and the current time is 0731.

What is your favourite season of the year?
I guess summer is nice. The other seasons can be a bit chilly and wet. Summer can be a bit wet as well, to be honest.

Can you ski or ice skate?
No, I’ve never tried either. I can almost feel my arm breaking as I slam down on the cold hard ice 😮

When was the last time you built a snowman?
I can’t even remember. I may have built a small one as a kid, but we rarely get enough snow for a snowman.

Have you had any Easter Eggs this weekend?
Yes, both this weekend and Easter weekend 🙂 As usual, I “accidentally” bought too many so had to eat them myself… 😉

Is Easter Monday a holiday in your country?
Yes. Easter is a four day weekend.

Are you familiar with Cadbury Creme Eggs, and if so, which is your favourite?
I am indeed very familiar, in fact I ate one last night. I didn’t know there was more than one kind, so that makes my favourite the “original” I guess.

Do you prefer a bar of chocolate, a box of chocolates, or something with chocolate flavouring (ice cream, cake, etc).
Yes please, all of those please.

What did you have for breakfast today?
I didn’t have anything. I don’t generally eat breakfast. I got out of the habit a while ago and now I’m just not hungry early on.

What is your preferred fruit juice?
I like orange and also apple. Apple is better when it’s hot weather as it’s not as sweet as orange and more refreshing.

What is your favourite snack?
Mmm, chocolate.

What is your favourite hobby or pastime, either now or when you were younger?
I like playing video games. Both now and when I was younger 🙂

Who is your favourite Super Hero?
Hmm… maybe Wonder Woman (the modern one) because she’s kick-ass and well cute. Or maybe Captain Marvel (the modern one) because she’s kick-ass and well cute… I could go on. There’s a pattern emerging here…

Would you like to have a Super power?
Yep. I’d like to be able to transport myself anywhere. Though knowing my luck I’d get distracted while visualising my destination and end up in outer space or the middle of a volcano or something.

Who is your favourite James Bond?
Tricky. Sean Connery was good but I also liked Pierce Brosnan.

Have you seen Top Gun: Maverick with the late Val Kilmer?
Yes, Just twice so far but it’s in for another viewing fairly soon I reckon.

Can you remember your first camera?
Yes, it was a little plastic thing. It took some weird size film, not standard 35mm, it was a sort of long cartridge. “120mm” rings a bell.

Can you remember when you had your first mobile phone?
Mid-late 90s. I don’t know who made it as it was branded “BT” (British Telecoms). I was the first person I knew who had one!

Can you remember your first car? If you don’t drive, can you remember your parents’ car?
It was a pale blue 1985 Ford Fiesta. Four gears. One litre engine. Not compatible with, or convertible to, unleaded petrol.

What was your first job as an adult?
I worked for three months at the local council when I was 18 in the IT department, earning some money before going off to university.

Are you ticklish?
A bit, I think. I can’t really remember, and you can’t really tickle yourself.

What colour are your eyes?
A sort of dirty hazel, I think.

Do you wear glasses/contact lenses?
I have worn glasses since I was about 10 for short-sightedness. A few years ago I also got a pair for reading.

I did try contact lenses back in university, but I kept falling asleep in lectures and they kept drying out and getting very painful. A lot of work too, all the cleaning and whatnot!

Which is your favourite room in the house?
The living room. It has all my bits and bobs in it.
