No Way In

It’s time for Friday Fictioneers again! It’s hard to believe a whole week has passed already. Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle, and we all try to write a 100 word post in response to a photo prompt, which this week is supplied by Rich Voza.

This week’s prompt is rife with possibilities – and I got nuffin’! Therefore I’m going to try a spot of dialogue with a truly silly ending. I’m even popping it in my “Just Silly” category :-). A bit of mid-week madness, if you will.

“What the… what’re those doors doing sat there like that?”

“Dunno, man. Weird. What’re you doing?”

“Looking for the hidden cameras.”

“I don’t see any.”

“Me neither. Hey, what’s this chap up to?”

“Aaargh! No!” yelled the new arrival, skidding to a stop.

“What’s wrong, man?”

“Don’t you see? Look!”

“What, the weird doors?”

“Yeah! Someone’s stolen my house!”

“Your house?”

“Yeah! They’ve just left the doors!”

The new arrival looked thoughtful and then began to laugh.

“What’s so funny? Someone’s just stolen your house!”

“The joke’s on them!” he giggled. “How are they gonna get in without the doors?”

It’s a shaggy dog story with a graphic! Very funny and cool picture, too.

Yes, that’s it! I was trying to remember the “category” for my little yarn – it’s a shaggy dog story, of course.
It is a cool picture – shame it’s not mine!
After my previous Friday Fictioneers entries I thought it was time for a bit of comedy.

Am I the only one who doesn’t know about Shaggy Dog stories? No matter, I enjoyed it anyway. 🙂

    • September 26, 2013 at 6:22 am

A “shaggy dog story” is typically a long-winded (well 100 word!) narrated anecdote with a pointless or anticlimactic punchline.
      Glad you enjoyed it 🙂

        AH! 😉 Thanks for sharing!

Me to, I don’t know the shaggy dog story.
This is difficult for me to write, your comedic dialogue is as good as your dark side. I love your dark writings.
    I liked this too thanks.

A “shaggy dog story” is a type of narrated anecdote with a pointless punchline – see here.
I’m glad you liked it – I thought it was time for a silly little story with no death in for a change!

    Light relief. Well done.

    • September 26, 2013 at 6:34 am

Thanks, I thought it was time for something a little less dark in my FF entries!

    Dear Draliman,

They just walk through the holes where the doors used to be, right? Nice story. Deft touch with the dialog.

  8. September 26, 2013 at 9:20 am

    Dear Draliman,

Why do I suddenly see Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey? Yup, Dumb and Dumber. Fun dialogue that painted a clear picture of the characters.

      Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s a film I keep meaning to watch again 🙂

  9. September 26, 2013 at 10:10 am

Clever take on the picture! I wonder if it’d be possible to steal a house and leave just the windows….?

    • September 26, 2013 at 11:13 am

Ah, I like the way your mind works, ES 🙂

  10. September 26, 2013 at 1:07 pm

That last line is priceless. Well done.

    • September 26, 2013 at 1:40 pm

  11. September 26, 2013 at 2:33 pm

    Made me smile. 🙂

    • September 26, 2013 at 3:41 pm

Made me smile too when I wrote it! It’s just so silly 🙂

  12. September 26, 2013 at 9:22 pm

Great fun with a killer punchline. I’m still smiling now. 🙂

    • September 27, 2013 at 6:30 am

I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

  13. September 26, 2013 at 9:42 pm

Yes that was silly but it wasn’t just silly it was clever as well.

    • September 27, 2013 at 6:31 am

You’ve seen through the silliness façade to the clever beneath 😉

  14. September 27, 2013 at 3:21 am

Haha! This really hit the spot. Very enjoyable!

    • September 27, 2013 at 6:31 am

I’m glad you liked it! A bit of a change from my usual entry.

  15. September 27, 2013 at 7:05 pm

Oh, I liked this a lot. This is definitely not nuffin! I know how you might feel. There’s so many ways you can go with this one. I like your direction a lot. Very clever and funny!

    • September 28, 2013 at 8:01 pm

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I usually try to do a clever little twist or something like that, but I couldn’t think of anything so I did a quick bit of dialogue instead. It seems to have worked though 🙂
Thank you for reading and commenting!

Oh this was the coolest place for your “stargate” to drop me off…..in front of doors!!! Is it programmed to do that for everyone the first time they click it?

    • November 25, 2013 at 4:50 pm

It’s supposed to be truly random! This is one of my silly Friday Fictioneers flash fictions – I was getting tired of killing people off all the time and I was short on ideas for this one!
